Hi all.

Does anyone have any ideas why when I'm speedtesting my ADSL connection over Wifi, my results are consistently 600kbs or so slower than when I'm connected via ethernet. I'm getting about 2.8 - 3Mbps when using the cable vs. only 2 - 2.2Mbps. I'm using DLINK 802.11g gear and have plenty of signal strength.

Any suggestions on how I can improve this speed will be appreciated,

Cheers,

Nico

I have the same setup as you (new DLINK g pci card and new DLINK 604 WiFi g router), and even with all security measures off (WPA degrades speeds somewhat), and two feet from AP, I still experience similar loss to you.

Yes inexplicably, my LAN speeds are nice and high (happily getting 20 - 30Mbps over the WiFi lan...

Very odd.

Hi there, I too am having this trouble. I have upgraded our internet plan from a 2mb to a 3.5mb one but even with the dlink router right next to me i cannot get over 2mb with my wireless nic but when i connect to the router with a lan cable i get close to the 3.5mb.

I am waiting for someone to come back with what he says are 'reg fixes' to change the 'window size for the data'.

TCP uses a sliding window concept for detect the optimal throughput for a connection path. Basically a burst of tcp segments are sent and if any need retransmission then the bust will be liwer next time, if none need retransmission then the bust is longer next time.

I would suggest using Ethereal to see if there is a difference in MTU/MSS detection in the initial TCP setup to this speed site you are testing from when used on the wired and the wireless connection.
