Hey guys hoping you could help me with this one.

Bit of history first, have been with Telecom broadband for ages, anyway one day our internet stopped working and when we rang up to complain after several phone calls we discovered they had cut our line off "by mistake" Anyway, it took them a week to get us re-connected (with a sizeable credit and a sorry letter).

So ever since all this happened and several re-boots of our modem (2 Wire- will provide more details when I get back home later this evening) our internet has been quite slow (general browsing, youtube loading, visiting certain websites), though downloads have been going at over 1.5mb/sec (utorrent downloads).

A couple of weeks ago, I couldn't access a local hiking/tramping website, so I thought it may be down, though friends who directed me there were accessing it at the same time. I tried on our PP.C connected via ethernet cable to the modem. On my laptop connected via wireless and my iphone and ipad, none of which could access the website. Though, I didn't think much of it and just forgot about it. Well last night, I tried getting the latest flash download for my laptop and low and behold I couldn't access adobe.com, pogo.com and one more webpage which I "googled" which wouldn't load. Though when I used a website like hidemyass.com (suggested by a website while I was trying to figure out what was going on) I could access all the websites.

So after that long winded description, I think there is something up with my 2 Wire ADSL modem/router, though I have no idea what. I can check back on this later tonight and post back any info anyone requires to help me out. I rebooted it last night, reset the firewall settings, though that didnt help. I wasn't sure about setting it to factory default.

Cheers,

I would try updating the router firmware if you can.. (you may have already done this though)

I thought of doing that last night, though looked at the time and it was just past midnight and my initial attempt at trying to find firmware updates just led me to dead ends.

Will try later today.

And are you using the Telecom DNS or some third party (Google, OpenDNS, etc)?

Maybe I should have said I am not a geek :)

How would I go about checking what DNS I am using?

If you don't know how to change DNS in your router, and no one else could have done it, then you are probably using the Telecom ones.

A factory default reset on the router is the first thing I would try, most routers will simply repopulate your dns's after, then all you need is your username and password. That will at least rule out the router as the root cause.

Support a locally made Linux based Operating System, try Linux Lite.

Yep. It sounds like your Router has got bad DNS records. I take you have tried switching it off then back on?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yea, have tried switching it off and on several times, rebooting it, resetting it, haven't tried the factory default settings yet.

Will try that later or the firmware upgrade as suggested by someone if there is one out there.

It's about the Telecom caching issue I guess. Go to
http://www.xroxy.com/proxylist.htm

Find a FREE proxy that works for you, set it in your browser, and you should be able to view Adobe.

Okay so thought I would update this.

Tried resetting to default factory, had no effect. Though suddenly this morning I could access the websites this morning. Though my Facebook pictures were not loading up now. So once again, I went through a proxy hide site and voila facebook loads up faster than ever.

Is it worthwhile contacting Telecom about this? or can I do something to the modem settings.

Its a 2wire 2701hgv-w

Thanks,

Ragnor

woah ! I have had exactly the same problem - and tried all the obvious fixes, none worked ... I've phone Telecom twice, and they've bumped me two times, after going through all the usual horrendous dumb support questions, when the first line support said she was passing over to a senior technician - the connection never got made - as if they were trying to avoid dealing with it ... extremely annoying - like to dump them if only NZ had more choice ... at least Telecom are generally much better than Compass.

Hopefully one of you guys finds something out - I'll be watching the topic... and let you know if I make any headway.

BTW - this all started a few days ago, had been working perfectly up until then. How about you?

Yea, its very annoying.

Waiting to hear back from Telecom, not holding my breath... Will post the reply here if I get one.

Would be interesting to see if anyone else having the problems can get through those sites which hide your proxy.
