Hi,

I have a thomson tg585 v8 and I'm on a 40gb plan with telecom,
The internet light keeps turning off every 10 minutes or so and would reconnect after 3-4 minutes, during that time, the broadband light would blink.
The internet does not work at all while this is happening.
I'm are currently using a monitored alarm, sky, and a telephone aswell.
The phone and modem are connected to 1 phone jack, sky connected to another and monitored alarm to another.
They all have filters in them.
I've talked to telecom about it and they said to try using different filters which we did, but the problem has persisted.

I'm thinking about getting a new modem, is there anything i can do about it?
I do not want to get another modem and find that it has the same problems and have wasted 100-200$.

thanks.

Hi Jamie, can you get the line stats from the modem, I think there is a DSL connection tab somewhere that gives you the list of line stats. Line attenuation, noise margin and Sync rate are primarily what we are after obviously while the line is up.

Have you tried disconnecting everything from the line except the modem. Regular disconnections are most commonly a line related issue, that said I have had a number of issues with the thompsons disconnecting for no reason, maybe overheating is an issue, do you have another modem (borrow one) to see if its the modem or line.

Heres the info, is it what your looking for?
I have tried disconnecting the phones and sky box but not the monitored alarm, as its connected somewhere in the attic, I shall give it a try sometime. I doubt its and overheating problem because it stands vertically.

Hi, speed is low for attenuation indicating a wiring issue, but if its an issue that causes disconnections (rather than lower than expected speed) hard to tell.

I think I would be looking at getting rid of the alarm in circuit, a central filter is best solution, if that does not fix it change modems.

Thanks I have had a splitter installed and got a new modem, the disconnects have stopped and it is much faster also. Thanks for your help.
