I have a laptop that connects wirelessly to my Thomson TG585 V7 router. I have set the IP address in TCP/IP on the laptop to 192.168.1.101 (have also tried having it obtain address automatically wit h no difference).

When I start the laptop it almost always shows an excellent signal from the router but 9/10 times when I open firefox there is no connection so I need to do a repair to get a connection (even though it showed I had a connection). Sometimes this doesn't work and I need to reboot the router.

All very frustrating as I have 2 others using router for work.

Any suggestions how to try and solve this problem?

Any suggestions for a quality router? I have heard Trendnets are very good but they are hard to find in New Zealand.

I use the same router and have wireless connection issues when somebody walks infront of the receiver lol so this router seems to only work when you have a clear path between the wireless device and the router.

Has any devices work on this wireless?

Netgear or Linksys - they are the good quality routers......

Why not get a replacement for your router or claim warranty on it?

I had a Thomson TG585 V7 router it was fine, I have a TPLink now only as I wanted to access fast N speeds that my devices can take advantage of.

Try a factory reset. Hold a paperclip in the reset hole for 7 seconds, till the lights all flash off. Or if you can do a swap with a mate if he has a wifi modem that is fine, as an isolation test

These Thomson TG585 routers seem to be nothing but trouble.

I have set up a few TP-Link modem/routers for people that have had these Thomson routers go flaky on them, and the TP-Links haven't missed a beat.
