Hi guys i need your help. am trying to configure Antamedia hotspot 1.4.6 for a small network without any success.

I am using a computer with two network cards that is part of a LAN and the other network card is connected to my wifi modem.. Everyhing seems to be working

1) My Internet connection is working on the PC running Antamedia
2) My laptop can connect to the Wifi

My problem is that when i connect to the wifi, i don't see a log on page its just says error loading page.

I don't know if the has anything to to with the settings on my PC.. On the Antamedia Settings Panel it says computer must be configured as a gateway so i don't know if i have to configure some thing in Windows

My instructions on how to do a fresh install of antamedia 1x or 2x

I havent installed antamedia for a while now. I recomend people just use a Zenbu router from zenbu.net.nz

Local area connection is to be renamed WAN
Local area connection1 is to be renamed LAN

1) Connect the gateway WAN port to your internet source (modem/router/company network)

2) Connect the gateway LAN port to a router lan port or access point. If you use a router, switch off DHCP server options so it does not issue ip addresses. Set the router or AP with the ip address 192.168.1.50

3) Test the internet connection on the gateway

4) Enable windows internet connection sharing.
- Open Control Panel > network connections
- Right click the Local area connection and rename it to WAN
- Right click the Local area connection1 and rename it to LAN
- Right click WAN > Properties > Advanced Tab. Enable Sharing with the LAN network
- Reboot the gateway computer
- Test that internet still works on the gateway

5) Connect a Laptop to the wireless network. It should be issued an ip address and be able to access the internet via the gateway computer.

6) Install Antamedia.
 - If using the new version, during the startup/welcome wizard, make sure you select that you wish to configure NAT and sharing yourself. This is also the cheaper version (I think).
This is because you have just configured it using windows internet connection sharing. It also handles the DHCP for you.

Antamedia inserts itself into windows internet connection sharing to provide the accounting and ticket gateway services.

7) Configure antamedia advanced options.

8) Reboot the laptop. It should now be asked for a logon ticket as it tries to leave your walled garden and go out to the internet.

Remember, the wifi accesspoint or router must be on your LAN side of your gateway. This means if you are using a wireless router as your internet connection on your WAN side, you must purchase another access point or wifi router (configure it correctly) for your guests to connect to.

Also the major thing to keep in mind,

Antameda hotspot is a badly written, unstable piece of crap software, and because of that, i personally will not be able to give any further advice on the program.

Good luck.

HotSpot V1.4.6 is a very old version, developed 4-5 years ago, and you should be installing the latest version from the Antamedia website, currently V2.9.

It includes NAT in all editions.

I'm not quite sure why Ray commented about the software that way, but thousands of active installations worldwide and Fortune 500 companies, proves the opposite. HotSpot is a gateway software that offers much more functionality than the routers.

General recommendation for a stable high-availability performance:
- Use quality network cards like Intel PRO /1000 PT SERVER ADAPTER PCI-E (EXPI9400PTBLK). This is important factor if you want to run hundreds of simultaneous users
- Make your LAN and WAN IP addresses static (on both HotSpot network interfaces)
- For ultimate performance in large networks, we recommend Server 2003R2 or 2008R2 and DHCP configured within the OS

Fell free to contact our tech support if you need help with your setup.

Hie Ray

Thanks for taking time to lay out those procedures.. I guess my problem is not the software and I seem to be getting the basics wrong..
I followed the steps for a fresh install and renamed my Local area Connection and Local
area Connection to WAN and LAN respectively..

Then I went on to "allow other users to connect to the internet through the gateway computer as outlined"

My nightmare was soon from over till I had to change the IP address of the router..

If I change the IP Address of my router from the router set up it tells me ip address is out of range... And even if I continue to save I am not able to connect my laptop to the access point..
And on my gateway computer I am able to connect to the computer.
Tried also to change the IP from the properties menu of the LAN connection but hit a brick wall again..
Confused again
