HI! I have a 16gb USB Stick which is chocka full of music, however, the player at work doesn't have a shuffle function, so all the music plays in alphabetical order. Which is nice. Not!
Is there any program that will re-name the files so they can be put into a random order? I don't have to be able to see what the file names are, and I can leave the music constantly playing as I realise once they are in a "random" order, that will then become the "normal" order, (hopefully you know what I mean!).

Thanks in advance!

Yes there are lots of programs for that.

Are you on Windows? You could easily write your own script for that using the commandline $random variable.

Arrange by file size > Select all > rename.
Quick n dirty way of getting some randomness in there

Yes I'm running Windows, but I'm quite a simpleton when it comes to writing programs! I had managed to sort the list by "Content created" which randomised it a little and have renamed as suggested, but it still not very random so if anyone has a link to a prgram, the advice would be gratefully received!Smile

This is a one click batch file with a restore feature:

http://www.howtogeek.com/57661/stupid-geek-tricks-randomly-rename-every-file-in-a-directory/

This thing has a random sort feature then use the number feature:

http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk

My preference would be the one click batch file.

Edit: on reflection the utility is the better choice for your needs. I have used neither but the utility has an active forum which might be useful if you need guidance on usage.

Sorting by file name may also give a reasonable amount of randomness.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I used the bulk rename utility and it worked fantastically! Thanks very much for your advice.
