I'm in the hunt for a security camera along these lines. I'm trying to find one that has battery back up and SD recording backup capabilities. The reason being that the fuse board is easily accessible, so if anyone flicked the power I would still like to record on for a time. It's hard to find a suitable camera which has:
Battery backup (and tiggered is loss of mains power)
SD backup
Wifi connectivity
Night mode
Motion activation
Weather proof
Expand-ability
I've done a lot of research on the net and while you can find cameras that tick most of the boxes it seems difficult to find something that covers all the bases.
If anybody has any recommendations that would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to stick this in another forum that is semi covering this topic.

I've never seen anything like that because I've yet to ever see a requirement for such functionality.

What do you mean by "expandability"?

Most people opt for professional CCTV kit which will meet most of those requirements. You won't get any serious equipment with WiFi because that's a very poor connectivity option. Likewise unless you buy a self powered standalone unit you won't get anything with a battery backup because 99% of cameras are PoE powered.

99% of cameras on the market will all have IR, IP66 or IP68 rated, motion detection and SD/Micro SD storage.

Budget - no idea exploring the best options.
I don't know if it is possible to trickle charge a battery over POE? But that would be an option. And as for mounting, where I live it just has to be secure!!! The wind would have it have mid winter :)

You wont often see micro SD and waterproof in one unit, because who wants to go climbing around outside to change the SD card when they fail? And when using them for loop recording, they fail pretty quickly. 4-5 months is my record for killing one.

out of interest what cards are you using? why are they failing so fast?
you wouldn't want to replace them more than once in two to three years, and most cameras now had SD cards indoor and outdoor, all of Axis cameras do anyway.

I have three cameras at home, with SD cards of 16g and 32g, two been in over 12 months, and one nearly 8 months and still going no problems.
they are designed for surveillance use, and warrantied for 3 years if bought from Axis distributor or two years from SanDisk.

8 gig apacer cheapies. had a few days of footage on them but I don't know how efficient it is with its wear leveling etc.

Problems were they just stopped responding to any device they were put into. DSLR gave card errors, readers on the PC acted as if nothing connected.

UBNT Unifi Vision should do the trick. Their cameras aren't as good as the more pro level kits but definitely more than good for a home situation.
The bullet style cams are rugged, have an SD slot and are powered by PoE. No point in doing battery backup as you can power them centrally and then put in a UPS at that central point.
Also, don't really see the point in using the SD card as backup. The NVR is Linux based so you could just rsync to another server (like a nas or somethibg).
