Hi,

I've had a Creative Zen Touch for years. I adore it, but it's a bit old, so I want to upgrade. I have about 5,000 songs on it, downloaded from various sources over the years.

Now, I want to copy the files from my player to my computer (for safekeeping and to put on a newer player). I can't figure out for the life of me how to do this. I can see all my mp3 files on My Computer and Windows Media Player, but it won't let me copy or drag any of them. Is there a program I can download? Are they rights-protected or something? How can I do this?

Thanks for the help.

I am also having the same issue.  I was given a Zen Touch with about 18GB of music on it that I need to copy to an iTouch.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The software provided does not allow the music to be copied to PC, the drive appears to be "locked", and there isn't an option to set the device as a mass storage drive, oppsed to the audio device setting it is in now.

Actually, just after I the above message, I found help here:
http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t518048.html

I would suggest anyone having similar issues, follow the above link and follow what this guy did.

Windows Media Player 11 does not work with most older zens, and will obliterate any drivers/firmware with it.  I had to completely remove all traces of Media Player 11 AND creative from my PC, and then reinstall the firmware, then the driver, and it began working with WMP 10, which is all I wanted in the first place.

I did everything that was posted on the other link, and then reinstalled the drivers. I have the SAME EXACT problem as before-- Windows Media Player 10 recognizes my player AND my files, but I can not copy them to the computer! The only option is to delete the songs.

The same thing happens when I try to drag the files from the device on my computer to my hard drive. It won't allow me to drag the files.

I've never been more frustrated about any computer-related issue in my entire life. I've been on the computer for hours, trying to fix this. WHY won't it let me copy my files?? Can anyone help me??

PS- I just tried downloading the creative transfer system, and it won't recognize my player, even though it says 'docked' and windows media player recognizes it

PROBLEM SOLVED.

The above solutions didn't work for me. I recently bought a mac, so I hooked my player up to the macbook, downloaded a nifty little program called xnjb on the advice of some macforum people, and presto-- problem solved. I'm never turning back to the convoluted logic of PCs!

Thanks for everyone's help!
