How can I transfer my itunes library from my desktop to my laptop?  I don't know how to do anything like this so if someone has any ideas to help that would be great.

Hi, if you have the latest version of iTunes (or anything from version 9.0) then you can use the home sharing function to import the music from your desktop to the laptop. It'll take a while and the laptop will need to be on the same itunes store account (you 'authorise' the laptop as part of the process). You can find out about home sharing here. I've used this feature to move a bunch of content from our desktop to my daughters new laptop - works well over wifi but is not super fast in my experience - so it depends on how much content you need to move.

Have a read at my recent blog, although I mentioned for purchased content but you can do whole iTunes library as well.

The easiest way is to just copy the directory with all the content across to the new machine and then point iTunes to the directory. it will then scan all the content and add it to the library.

If you have podcasts you subscribe to then these are contained in the xml config file which could be merged.

Steve, the method 2 in my blog can consolidate them all into a single folder so you can back it up simply.
