Hi,

I just got a ipod video and i dont understand how to put videos onto it ive tried heaps of programs to get the right format for the iPod but it just won't go on the ipod.

I know you have to buy quicktime pro but is there any other good software that is free that will help me get the videos on.

Thanks

They need to be in MP4 or H.264 format, but I would recommend the latter as it's a more efficient encoding protocol. If you encode in H.264, you need to use 'baseline profile' rather than 'main profile' if you're planning to view the video on your iPod.

A good piece of software to use for encoding is Handbrake. You can find this at handbrake.m0k.org.

Once you've ripped some content using Handbrake, you just drag the file onto the 'library' icon in iTunes.

Do a google search for 'videora ipod convertor', its free and does all the thinking for you.
Converts avi (and i think mpeg) into the right size mp4 format, drag that into itunes and transfer to ipod. Works well.
