Hi all,

I assume that anyone who has been following the new iPhone rumours has seen reports that they are working on a fingerprint scanner screen.

My question is, apart from using it to unlock your phone, what is the point of it? I can't think of any reason why I would buy it for that feature alone?

Possibly to satisfy some enterprise requirements for biometric authentication.

Maybe they are working their way up to eyeball scanning. Then we'd have a real Retina display

my son's laptop had a finger print scanner2-3 years ago and what a waste of time and so fustrating, you had to get your finger in the exact position or it wouldn't work, far easier just to type in a password.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Is the resolution on the digitiser even capable of reading a finger print on the Iphone/Ipad?

I think it would be a cool toy but wouldn't sell the phone for me!

My laptop has finger scanner works great. Just a bar that you move your finger across. Rarely have to do it twice, and when do it's because didn't keep finger flat down.

Wouldn't buy phone etc for scanner, but when it works, easier then typing in passwords all the time.

As well as unlocking, probably use for anything else that uses passwords, log in web sites, banking applications etc.

Sorry a bit off topic here. But this kind of shows me of what the future holds. A thief steals your phone and then say wait a minute! Let me cut that finger to since its locked...been watching way to many movies!

I would hope it wouldnt go to those extremes...

Back to the screen, would you need an ultra high PPI or someother technology that could be used for more then scaning your finger?
