Approx how long would an iphone battery last if you switch of all of the non-phone related services (3g/location/bluetooth wifi etc), and just use the unit as a phone. Is it comparable to a normal cellphone?

I figure, if I need to use 3g or other service, then I can just switch that on when needed.  I've heard, that with all services on, the phone will barely last a day before needing a recharge.

There is a lot of debate in various forums about Iphone battery life.
Of course the new 3Gs claims to have more.
Jon Rettinger on his you tube clips talks of Battery conditioning. Discharging batteries to flat then recharge and rep[eating the cycle over several days.
I have mine set with most services on and get roughly as days useage.

I don't have an iphone yet.

Just considering this.

If battery only lasts a day, then that is no good.

But, if I can get 3 or 4 days with most services off then that would be ok. Then, i can turn the services on only when needed.

My iPhone 3G battery can last from half a day to about 3 days, usually about 1 day though. Thats with location services on, push on, 3G on and surfing the net on it for a few hours during the day.

Somedays I was LUCKY to get a FULL DAY out of it.

Mind you; I had PUSH mail, contacts, calendar enabled etc. so that didn't help.

But even with it off, I still found myself charging it every night - otherwise it would die half way through the next day.

BTW to the other poster saying discharging the battery. Not a good idea. Li-on batteries don't take well to being fully discharged and charged again

Please take a read here. Li-on batteries don't have memories, therefore charging and discharging would effectively be useless.
: The overall reaction has limits. Overdischarge will supersaturate lithium cobalt oxide, leading to the production of lithium oxide,[18]

Haha, my iPhone 3G S ran out of juice on Saturday from 100% at 5.15pm till 11.00pm the same night.

Then on Sunday, it lasted from about 10.30am till 11.00pm that night.

Today it lasted from 6.00am and currently at 9.30pm it has 50% juice left :P

As you can see I was playing with it lots during the weekend!

Those of you that have been reading about how the iPhone 3G S battery has been heating up and causing marks on the back of the white 3G S - looks like there may be a reason to all of this... cheap iPhone cases? See the below link
