Hi,

Can someone explain, or provide a step by step guide on how to update a 1st generation (2g?) iPhone to a more recent update?

This phone was purchased at Par. Importers NZ - they provided it unlocked. When looking in the phone's general settings, then into "about", it says 1.1.4 under version - I presume this is the current update?

So what is the latest this 1st gen 2g phone can go up to without causing problems, and still enabling it to have the pixting / txt forwarding / mms capabilities etc??

I am told to just update using iTunes, it will lock the phone?

Please help.

Thanks so much.

Find/Use/Borrow a Mac
use PwnageTool 3.1.4 to do it all..
This is the most simple way of doing it.. if you have windows only there are some other ugly ways of doing it..

oh yea.. there is the commcentre hack to enable tethering.. commcentre hack to enable MMS on 2G iphones.. should be all in cydia these days..

And the Most important thing is don't blame me for bricking your iPhone :-)

So is it quite easy to do with a Mac? I presume I just google for PwnageTool 3.1.4, then install on the Mac and it just does it step by step? Is there a link anywhere for the utility you mentioned, and a guide?

Are there any easy ones in Windows that will at least enable an update to pixt / forward texts etc?

Thanks! I really appreciate your help.
