I've been thinking about swapping over to from Slingshot to the 200GB Orcon Genius plan as it'll give me double the data amount for only a couple dollars more a month.

However, I have a few questions that the Orcon website can't answer for me.

1. Can I still use my Draytek Vigor120 modem with the Orcon Genius plans?

I know you need to use the Genius modem to have the phone line working, but is there a way to pass that through my current set up?

2. At the moment I'm syncing at around 21mb/s on Slingshot, are the speeds on Orcon going to be similar?

According to the Chorus Service Availability map I can get ADSL2+ and VDSL2 in my area, will I be getting the most out of my line with Orcon?

If you are not using the Genius VoIP service (i.e. no phone), then I believe you can still use any router you like.
Possibly you can use the Draytek in PPPoA-PPPoE bridge mode with the Genius router. LAN port 4 can be configured to become a WAN port, so try this, then use PPPoE in the Genius router to authenticate.

Well, I do need a phone line at home. So there's not much chance of not using the Genius Modem.

I did get a reply from the Orcon support line via email, and they said that I had to use the Genius modem to connect. Although I feel they didn't quite understand my question.

Currently my set up looks like this:

Internet <-- Draytek V120 <-- Apple Time Capsule <-- Computers.

What I'd like to know is whether the Genius modem can fit somewhere in there while keeping the phone line capability.

I can now confirm that this works. Did this with a Draytek DV2710e for a rural customer. The Orcon router was not up to the task.
