Whats slingshot's promised speed in Rotorua i seem to be getting .8 megabytes per second is that slow?
how does that compare to other places?

"0.8megabytes"/s is ~6.4mbit a second, which would be ~8mbit/s sync rate (ADSL1 sync rates).
That's not slow by any means. It's not amazing, but if you're syncing at ADSL1 rates, that's pretty much your max. (Your sync rate is determined by your modem, the DSLAM, your distance to the exchange/cabinet, your internal house wiring)

Slingshot don't have a "promised speed", since that's entirely dependant on your sync rate and a few other things out of their control. (Including overseas download speeds)

Depends on if it is actually megabytes though. 0.8 megabits is painfully slow. You can fix this kind of thing by removing filters (best case scenario) or installing a master splitter. :)

We have different units for a reason! 0.8MB/s (MegaBytes) is still decent!

I agree it .8 MB is still a decent speed, but its kinda weird how i had 1.5-2 MBps connection a few months before (Definitely megabytes i know my units LOL) and for the cabinet its literally behind the house behind my house. Also just realized that we are not in the better network zone but dont get me wrong its not in a rural area or anything but the area is just further away from the CBD though the fluctuating ping from 14ms-20ms-50ms. Dont get me wrong the modem, splitters and everything have been the same all year. I just cant put my finger on whats wrong.

Presumably you are on a residential ADSL connection then?

Have you done an isolation test - if so, what are the results?

What are your modem line stats?

There is no promise of a certain speed unless you have a singed SLA agreement on speed,

This will cost you big $$$ per month

First off how are you determining your speed?

Is this DSL sync speed or a test to a speedtest server? If it's a speedtest server what server is it, and more importantly what is your DSL sync speed.

Without providing any more background data your question is pretty much akin to asking how long a piece of string is...

and yes its residential adsl, though im not complaining or anything its just the ping im really annoyed about.. before it was 14-15ms now its up there at 25-30ms w/ a those speedtests were from the orcon auckland server and another one from pingtest.net says 29ms + 4ms line jitter.

Your sync rate should be a bit higher than that for your attenuation. The first thing that you need to look at is your internal house wiring as it's a typical cause of such an issue.

Do you have a master filter installed? If not the first step is to perform a full isolation test removing all wiring and plugging the modem directly into the incoming wiring.

Somehow this sounds strange. Line speed is measured in megabits per second (Mbps) not megabytes per second (MBps).

For example, 2 megabytes per second is 16 megabits per second.

0.8 MB (megabytes) is 6.4 Mb (megabits).

As noted by Steve, check your house wiring. You will find the problem lies there.

How are you getting the speed? Speedtest or the modem stats? Also, are you testing this with wireless or wired connection to the router?
