I'm just wanting to find out if anyone else has had / is having this issue before contacting tech support.

It's kind of weird, for the last two nights at midnight modem time the Genius modem has "locked up". It starts kicking devices off the network, the first to go is our house alarm, then our printer. If I go on my PC I can ping the modem IP address and get a response, but I can not access the web interface to configure the Genius - it just times out.

If I unplug my computer (I don't use wireless) and then plug it back in, I will have lost my connection. It will not reconnect to the internet. Windows shows it as a "Public Network" with no internet access.

To the best I can tell the Genius modem appears to have got "stuck" doing something to the detriment of everything else I want it to do. And whatever it is, it's happening at midnight.

I've raised something similar with the helpdesk before and they told that the modem locking up could be the Genius "updating itself", but last night I left it for a few hours and it didn't go away. Interestingly the alarm was able to reconnect around 1am, and was booted off 2 minutes later, and again around 2am, but was booted off a few minutes later again.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

orcon in all their wisdom sent me a genius yet recorded my account as having a genius lite. this was fun come update time (they eventually killed it completely) - wonder if they've done the same for you? quickest way to check is to see what equipment you have listed in your account. if it shows you have the lite router then you shouldn't have the handset for example.

when the helpdesk suggests something like that ask for confirmation - ask them if they can confirm if an update has been released for your router, ask if an update is even required for you.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.
