Hey there,

For the past month or so I've been getting incredibly unstable pings. Connecting to the game League of Legends my pings vary from 150ms to 230ms. There is no pattern at all. It is completely random and happens 24/7.

I noticed the high hec errors.

Just signed up to VPN-S on their $2 trial.

Have stable 150 pings to that server using their NZ VPN.

I assume the issue is definitely the global gateway / slingshot issue then?

The issue is definitely on the provider side, possibly past Slingshot tranzpeer (somewhere at global-gateway or beyond), however Slingshot is too lazy to lift their bums and start investigating.

As per my posts here http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=81&topicid=114665&page_no=2 I've been battling them for a few days and even went to the extent of installing a master xDSL splitter and rewiring my DSL jack point with CAT6 from incoming line and moving it in the same enclosure where the switch is. This however does not fix anything beyond my router/possibly exchange.

Slingshot shows inconsistent delays within their own network. The speeds  to Europe, Asia and Russia are shocking... probably other regioms as well ... the only good result I'm getting is to USA. Also Google & Co shows very good results which in turn shows that some severe throttling/shaping is in place.

There are huge delays between slingshots transpeer and global-gateway, there are pretty bad inconsistencies within global-gateway. You can see my trace routes and pings in the aforementioned post. Thre are huge delays between 202.180 and 202.50 subnets + obvious inconsistencies within 202.180 and real bad delays within 202.50.

Why is text being cut off on smaller screens ?

And the Slingshots tech support is being ignorant and do not want to accept the
fact that there is something wrong beyond customer premises. I'm thinking of
switching providers if Slingshot keeps pointing finger back at customer.

Yeah it definitely seems like a hand off issue.

Just signed up to vpnsecure.me, connected to their NZ VPN and immediately pings are stable at 160. No more spikes on global gateway either.

Here are pings to global gateway.

Same issue for me to, Been having same ping problems on LoL for about 2 months now, at first I thought was due to the 3.2 patch, but has been ongoing right up to now on latest build.

I'm on the 250gb plan and from Christchurch, My ping goes from 150 to 230ms no matter what time of the day.

Is the VPN site you guys talking about worth getting to fix latency issues in LoL?

Yeah man. Since using that VPN my ping has been a solid 160ms all last night and all day today. At $8USD a month its really worth it for me.

Bonus is, you can switch the servers from NZ to USA and watch netflix etc.

All of those websites are international. You won't squeeze more than 5Mb/s out of international transit on any plan. I'm surprised you managed 2Mb/s. Pings are pretty high though.

Let us know how it goes with another provider.

I too had problems with Slingshot after ~8:30pm. Playing DOTA2 my connection would get to the point where it would have more packets being lost then being delivered. (Completely unplayable lock ups and time outs ingame)

I spoke to Slingshot, at first they also tried to blame my first hop, as it was ~10ms to my router. It's not that because connecting to an NZ TF2 server works fine.

Anyway, I got no where with Slingshot and they told me not enough people were experiencing the same issues so they couldn't escalate it further.

The problem seemed to occur on the global gateways 6-7 hops into the tracert to AUS servers. Slingshot told me that fixing them or routing around them was out of there control....

BUT: I changed my router from ADSL2+ to ADSL (1) sure I lost some speed, but this appears to have fixed my issue. Now that I have changed connection type my tracert shows a different path to DOTA2 servers and I can now play lag free past 8:30pm :)

I'm curious if this fix will work for anyone else.

I am having similar issues i have had issues for almost the year i have been with slingshot, The main reason i stayed was for the unlimited cap, I might try this VPN-s suggestion "http://www.vpnsecure.me/" Y/N?

Thanks.

Yep that's the site it's great gone from 180ms - 230ms to consistent 160ms, with using the New Zealand server, I was getting 150 to 170ms on the US West coast server aswell.
