[Snap] ITV and 4od blocked on SNAP

Just the last few days I've found access to ITV player and 4od blocked most of the times I try to access them (I am using Unblockus/Hola etc).

The block happens from the Google search. When I click on the link from the search no page opens (this even happens just trying to access the home pages for ITV and Channel4).

Has anyone else found this the last few days and is it just on SNAP or from NZ in general that it's happening?

Seems OK here on snap with unblockus (after changing region to UK on unblockus, then denying the itv player request for the browser to access my location and instead just entering a valid UK postcode)

Not seeing any issues here. Again snap UFB with unblock-us.

tried 4od with Hula and it worked fine, Snap vdsl

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Working fine here too with Unblock US and Snap ADSL
Strange problem though, sometimes their DNS does go a bit buggy

Hi chezpayne - Short answer, nope we don't block anything like this! It does sound like it could be something to do with your Unblock US, they have a few different DNS server's listed in their help, maybe try and use another one? if you change back to Snap DNS and the problem goes away that will narrow it down to DNS.

Thanks for replies.

There still appears to be an issue but I think it's at the UK end. Every few days I get a "forbidden", or indeed a blank page when I try to access ITV and 4od. Generally I get around this by clearing cache on browser. It's a fiddle, but it seems to sort the issue.

Slightly off topic, but what's the performance like with UK content on VDSL?

eg. Can you reliably watch the HD streams on iPlayer?

I'm on Orcon ADSL2 at the moment and it varies from working a treat (even with HD) to an unwatchable mess with frequent buffering and constant "insufficient bandwidth" messages of doom. Plus there's no rhyme or reason to the performance, totally independent of peak hours etc.

Why would you think vdsl is any better than adsl for this stuff?

Both technologies can stream 1080 video without issues. I would think the bottle neck lies elsewhere.

My vdsl connection still stutters on occasion with video -- even though it is capable of 65Mbps, there are other bottlenecks before it gets to me.

I don't know. That's why I'm asking.

Perhaps the higher upload speeds on VDSL or fibre would help reduce latancy?

I realise given the distances involved that what happens in NZ may only have a limited effect.

My contract period with Orcon has expired so I'm interested in getting some comments on the real life performance of the alternatives, particularly in relation to streaming video content from the UK.
