We have an apple TV streaming 1080p videos and also two PC gamer's that would like everything to go as smooth as possible without kicking anyone off/adversely affecting each other if possible.

Its a 100/30 unlimited Orcon UFB connection with the standard genius box thingo

I use a router flashed with Tomato USB. I prioritize outbound traffic only in the following order:

Highest - DNS & ports used for the one game I play online.
High - TCP 80/443 (0-512KB)
High - 5060/5061
Med - UDP 1935 (streaming video like flash)
Med - TCP 80/443 (512KB+)
Med - TCP 8080
Low - Everything else

Outbound rates: (guaranteed - max)
Highest = 1,700 - 8415 kbit/s
High = 1,275 - 8075 kbit/s
Med = 850 - 6800 kbit/s
Low = 425 - 1275 kbit/s

I'm on VDSL 70/10 sync and I limit my overall upload to ~8.5mbps to ensure the prioritizing does come into effect before I get limited by upstream throughput limits. I'm sure some of my values above are wrong/not optimal but it works.

I can have several people downloading, torrenting, streaming hulu plus etc without anyone noticing. and worked equally well when on ADSL.

I assume you mean 100/50?

If you can even cause a dent in that connection I'd be surprised. I don't think there is a problem to actually solve.

Good point, but how well does the genius handle 100's and 100's of connections simultaneously? I know many routers you find in the stores struggle with sometimes as few as 200 active connections.

Well since I moved in (two weeks ago) the head tenant is compaining his video on the appletv is out of sync/choppy late at night when I play games (10-11pm) (mainly diablo 3 at the moment.

In the Genius WebAdmin (192.168.1.1) page the QOS is turned on. But it doesnt look like its configured beyond giving VoIP priority, should the QOS be turned off in the router if its "in place end-to-end" or should I figure out which port appletv/diablo3 uses for example and give those an equal split?

You really need to understand what QoS does first.

QoS on a CPE is primarily there to shape upstream packets as that's all it can effectively do. It can't really control the packets or order of packets that are being sent to you from your ISP.

You need to look at the root cause of the Apple TV problem because QoS isn't necessarily the answer. Where is the content coming from for a start? Does the problem fix itself if you stop gaming?

No online game will be having an impact on that connection, unless its updating.

Did this just start when you moved in ? If you turn your PC off does the problem go away ?

Indeed... :)

Your trying to set the QoS on upstream however you expernce issues on your downstream as mentioned in your post.

To apply a "Quality of Service" to a packet on your downstream you must receive it first and if your QoS says its low that packet will drop and your PC will request it again. This packet dropping will cause wasted bandwidth.

I'd suggest the problem is more likely a bottleneck external to you.

A couple of games and a 1080p video stream shouldn't saturate that connection, but if you want to be absolutely sure, stop gaming for a few minutes, and see if the video stream improves.

You could try some traceroutes to the video's source and see if that points to congestion somewhere perhaps?

Might just have to get the person watching TV to drop to (say) 720p and see what happens.

no online game except blizard ones.

by default blizard do peer to peer uploading in an unrestrained fashion for at least diablo3 and wow afaik.

in the starter downloading thingy you can disable "peer to peer" to remove that functionality, which should give faster download speeds, and create less congestion.

Now online gaming is barely playable. Rubber-banding all over the show every 8 seconds.

Currently playing league of legends. Latency is only 150-220ms but I'm rubber-banding . Same thing happening with Diablo 3.

Only thing happening in the flat atm is myself gaming and other flatmates watching prerecorded mysky. :(

Wasn't having these kind of issues using 6/1 ADSL with Vodafone...

What is going on Orcon?

Most iPhones and iPads on the planet will download 190MB each over the next 24hrs.....

are you absolutely sure that's the only thing that's happening, ie you have done an isolation test or are you just guessing

It hasn't only been happening today, its just today that its become unplayable. It was noticeable and annoying the last two weeks.
Today: unplayable.

Games are hosted in California, USA for both League of Legends and Diablo 3.

Honestly an Isolation test would be almost impossible to do in this house. 14 devices on the DHCP list atm.
Iphones, Ipads, Imac, AppleTV. Smart home cinema stuff (cabinet full of smart amps, audio visual stuff that I frankly have no clue about) Two desktops. And other stuff I'm sure I've left out.

There is at least one, possible two Ethernet switches and squillions of cat5 cables running through the walls.

I wouldn't think IOS is the problem. Surely 4 IOS devices wouldnt take 2hours+ to update.
Genius has an uptime of 9hrs at the moment, so It looks like it was reset at midday.

are you gaming over wifi?

isolation test is easy:
disable wifi, unplug everything from ethernet ports on modem and plug your computer in then test again pretty simple

i think if your gaming over wifi its just wifi congestion wich you can really do anything about
