Hello,

Today I have the Orcon VDSL Install. The internet does work very good. However my phone line is not so good. I am change over from Telecom ( I have not informed them I change provider yet) but my landline work fine. When I plug phone into the genius however, I get the beeping noise. Like when you call someone and their line is in use. But a bit faster.  The router says the voip is connect and has the correct phone number. What should be done?

Sounds like voicemail beeps - can you phone into your number? If you wait then the beeps should turn into a dial tone and let you call out?

Let me know either way and PM me your account details if you want me to check it out...

Your Telecom landline is presumably still using your old phone number.
Did you ask Orcon to use your old Telecom number, or have they given you a new VoIP phone number?
You can't have the same number with two providers at once, and Orcon only use VoIP.

Not sure I follow that, if the OP has asked for his number to be ported from Telecom then it will have been and it will work fine on our network and Genius, there is no such thing as a "voip number". If he hasn't asked for it to be ported then we will have allocated a number from the Orcon range but again it can be delivered down a Genius voip or resold or LLU POTS line.

When I phone my number, only the phone connected without the genius rings. And no it doesn't let me call out if I wait. I will PM you my orcon username

The genius has the same number set as my Telecom phone.

That is what I'd expect, can you call it? Can you call out?

If I call my number from another line (my mobile) only the phone connected straight to wall jack rings. The one connected to the genius does not. I cannot dial out from the genius connected phone, but I can from the one connected directly to the wall jack.

Yep its all set but the port hasn't gone through - I can't tell why not - I've escalated to the team to fix that ASAP Friday, meantime just use the POTS phone as normal...

Thank you very much! When should I terminate my service with Telecom by the way? I was told by Orcon to do it once it is all up and running, otherwise I might not get to keep my same phone number. Should I wait until the voip is working?

Head of Prov has reloaded the port for tomorrow midday, when I see its gone through I'll reset your modem to bring the voice service up. Once done you should have no service on the phone jackpots from Telecom, and your number should work on the Genius....then by all means let Telecom know to cancel but do tell them you have churned...
