Hi guys,

I have problem setting up port forwarding on new Orcon fibre modem, the netcomm wireless. My fibre got connected last week and I had to move all my network configuration from old black modem to the new one which has Gigabit LAN. I have few virtual servers hosted in my LAN and I need to access them at work. I am using no-ip dynamic DNS service and ddclient on my Linux box to report the public IP address to no-ip. When I configure all ports without enabling loopback, I can't see any of my server using no-ip URL even if I try to do them from my private LAN, but when I enable loopback LAN with forwarded ports, they work fine and I can access them from my private LAN, but still are not accessible from Internet. I am kinda sure there is something wrong with the modem set up and not with my virtual servers as they used to work before with old modem and still working when loopback is enabled.

I have read in one of the old threads which netcomm SPI firewall technology is causing issue, but looks like firewall is not enabled on my modem.

I have already contacted Orcon and they said, they only support basic Internet connection which does not make sense to me when you want to access your network. I do not use Internet only to access Facebook. Orcon customer service really sucks. Does anybody have any idea why it is happening and how I can fix my port forwarding issue? The modem model is netcomm wireless Nf4V. Many thanks.

I'm having the exact same issue, same symptoms (except mine works without loopback) I can RDP to the servers internally but cannot connect from outside.. Domain has the right IP but cannot connect through the router.. aaaaaagh I'm going crazy trying to figure this out!

I'm having the exact same issue, I recently connected with Trust Power and was sent the Nf4V,

I run a web server from home just to host some personal test sites and port forwarding worked fine with my old router but this one doesn't work at all, I've opened both port 80 and 8080 for my two sites and neither connect like they used to, I then opened port 25444 to host a game server on the weekend and that doesn't work either.

I emailed Netcomm and got a reply telling me port 80 is used by the modem web service and when that's added to the virtual servers it switches to 8080, but no matter what ports I open they don't do anything.

I plan on reconfiguring my old Telecom ADSL router on the weekend to connect to Trust Power just to double check that the web server is still working as it should and then I'll email my results back to Netcomm.

Hi, thanks for reply. Well, I finally decided to cancel my contract with Orcon. I had another issue with them which was since I got my fiber connected, every two to three hours, the Internet connection drops (The modem itself works and Wifi is up) and the only way to fix it is by restarting it. It is almost three weeks since I reported this to Orcon and they could not fix it (I'd say they did not do anything to fix it). They sent me new modem more than 10 days ago, but they could not even register the new modem in their network. They told me the reason my Internet drops is because I upload a lot to Google drive and maybe Google drive cause this issue on my modem. I am a software engineer and just imagine what I thought when I was told this by them. Their customer service is somewhere in Philippine, not in NZ and what they do not do is actually fixing the issue. They are the worst Internet provider so far in my life. I have applied for Snap and I am going to get my modem today from their office in Christchurch. I'd recommend everyone not to use Orcon at all. They are the worst when it comes to fixing customer issue.

By the way, before I apply for Snap, I checked with them, they said they support port forwarding. :)

A completely understandable decision, I was an Orcon customer once too but that didn't last long either due to multiple issues, this was back in the day when you had to wait 40+ mins on the phone to pay your bill cause they didn't do it on line...... now I tell all my friends to stay well away from them.

As @Themantis had posted, earlier in another forum (another reason why you should read or search for forums already created before you make another) he managed to get his working here

I wish that you had posted here before changing service providers, we would have been only to glad to find out what was going on for you.

just want to add I've not yet experienced any issues with orcon, they've been great for the 5+ years I've been with them. no company is perfect but the minor things that have happened have been sorted quickly.

I do not need UDP port, I only need TCP, so if enabling both protocols resolve the issue, this is the modem problem. I do not want to let UDP traffic to be forwarded to my network.

My problem with Orcon is they talk to end-user like an idiot. The main reason I decided to change my provider was Orcon failed to resolve the issue, but ironically closed the ticket and told me the issue has been fixed. All Orcon customer service staff do is to ask you do a factory reset (I have to configure my modem on every factory reset) and they open another ticket in their system which they close it whenever they like, not when the issue is really fixed.

I had an issue about a year ago with web sites hosted overseas. The download was too slow, so I called Orcon and they said, we only responsible for servers hosted in NZ, not in overseas. It actually means I cannot access my Gmail account, Youube and Google Drive cause they are hosted not in NZ. I still remember the lady over the phone was asking me why I am not running Windows or Mac at my home and using Linux instead and she was saying it could be the reason why my connection was slow. You guys are genius, hahahahahaha

yeah, can you help shed some light on why the Nf4v's have so much trouble port forwarding or are you just posting because Orcon missed an opportunity to keep a customer? I posted here for help with my Router not to discuss Orcon's poor customer support.

Well I'd like to apologise for the frustration that got you to that point. No-one on here works in Orcon residential Tier 1, all of us give freely of our own time and are interested in supporting customers via this route when we can.

Please try and not let any frustrations you have spill over onto the staff who post here, every one is giving voluntarily of their time and attention to precisely help customers who come in by this route - but it isn't any part of their day job. I for one appreciate their efforts.

Now, constructive.

This isn't a widespread issue, the sum total of reports we have are here on this board so we don't have a lot of examples to work with. One user resolved his issue as Flamebeard posted, definitely constructive to rule out that fix in any other case as we try and get a handle on the problem and what might be causing it.

We have a T3 CPE specialist, he is not aware of any examples of this problem by any other source coming in but we are happy to look into it to see what we can find and whether we can get a workaround and/or a resolution for it. Flamebeard will be in touch tomorrow after discussing the case further with our T3 engineer. Likely then we will need to access you modem, devise some tests etc etc.
