Hi..

Anyone else had a problem using netflix with their chromecast on world mode, mine hast not worked from sunday. The chromecast reports "Can not connect".
Using netflix in the android app, is fine.
It worked good prior to sunday???

Phone: Google Nexus 1 , stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 Self Rooted.

Are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 still blocked ?

I forward them in my router, (open-wrt) to the slingshot dns..

iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 8.8.8.8 -j DNAT --to-destination 202.180.64.10
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 8.8.4.4 -j DNAT --to-destination 202.180.64.10

Which worked fine until sunday.

I have changed the forward to unblock-us addresses and chromecast started netflix first go, so its definatly something up with the slingshot dns.

I have had a similar issue with trying to stream bbc iplayer. All I get on the TV is a still picture of the video I am trying to stream then a "Ready to Cast" message.

I have dst-nat 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to my slingshot dns. Checked the logs and traffic is being routed and dest address chnaged ok.

I have changed my laptop to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to test the dst-nat'ing and the laptop can play bbc iplayer no problem, so chrome cast must be doing something else.

Any one any ideas, other wise it will be a packet trace to try and find out what it is sending (I can feel a headache coming on !)

I have not tried BBC IPlayer with the cast yet, it works fine on the table using the app, I will have a go in the weekend..

:)
The slingshot problem was fixed last week, i had a support issue open with them..

Chromecast isn't working with Slingshot, as soon as I change my iptables rules to use unblock servers, bbc app will work on chromecast, switch back to slingshots dns's and no go...

Hopefully this can be fixed...

Anyone found a work around? would like to ditch unblockus subscription at some point..

Its been good working for me for 2 weeks or so..

To get netflix working, you have to do the redirect of the dns, I use openwrt, and enter the rules as I posted above, but with a small change that I route it to my local router DNS service, which redirects to the slingshot one..

Hi,

Yes sorry I am talking about BBC iplayer not netflix.

I have tried blocking google DNS servers and also forwarding them in iptables.
It doesn't work when I block or forward to slingshots' dns servers

However it works straight away when I forward to the unblockus dns servers.

Is anyone using bbc iplayer on chromecast successfully with slingshot global mode currently?

Hi,

Likewise I still have the same problem.

I have tried blocking and redirecting google dns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and all ip net 8.8.0.0 to my own router and also directly to slingshot dns, but still the same issue.

I don't have an unblock account to try.

Have slingshot commented on the issue ?

Would you be able to provide a bit more info, wouldn't the chromecast work the same as any other device, providing you force it into using Slingshots DNS? Or does BBC implement extra geo checks when connecting to the chromecast?

Don't have any specifics i'm afraid. Getting every service they can to run on as many devices as possible can take a bit of time but this is definitely one the team are going to work on.
