Morning all

Not sure whether its a Snap issue or hotmail issue.

I am a Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator and have an email group of 100+ residents that I send email to.

Over the last couple of weeks all of a sudden all the hotmail users emails are bouncing back with the message:

5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 550-'5.7.0 (BAY004-MC6F35) Message could not be delivered. Please ensure the message is RFC 5322 compliant.'

The addresses are hotmail.com, hotmail.co.uk, hotmail.co.nz, outlook.com, windowslive.com.

Ive done a bit of research and the only solution? I can find is to possibly add arrow brackets e.g <george@hotmail.com> for all the email addresses that are bouncing back, which is needless to say a right PITA.

Any ideas?

Which version of Outlook? It's possible that older versions don't properly format the "from" address in the email, and an improperly formatted address will trigger that error.

If you're sending email to that many people, have you considered trying an email list service, such as MailChimp? These sorts of services will take your email message and send a separate copy out to every person on the list. This process recreates the part of the mail message that is giving Hotmail/Outlook.com headaches, so should correct anything that your Outlook is doing wrong.

Using a making list service has other benefits too. You no longer have to put everyone's email in the To field, which is bad for privacy, or in the BCC field, which makes more likely mail will get marked as junk/spam. You can generally control who gets to send messages, and if someone else in the group does send a message, it'll only go to current members of the list. And if you leave the neighborhood, it's easy to give control of the list to someone else. It's definitely worth considering these factors.

Hi there

I have the group as a Distribution list.  I BCC the email to the group, no-one can see anyones email address.

Its always run fine for the past few years.  Its hotmail that has changed somehow.

I would prefer to stick with Outlook if I can.  Its Office 2003.

Check what you have as your email address in your outlook account settings. Make sure there are no typos.
