Hi there,

Really excited about global mode and Netflix has been working well through my apple tv over the last couple of days.

I have a second tv - Sony Bravia KDL-46W700A that I wanted to get connected directly to Netflix using the TV's applications (ie without requiring another device (apple tv, roku etc)).

There was some advice on the whirlpool site in Aussie that recommended creating a wifi network using a Mac and connecting the TV to that network.  I did this and got access to a whole lot of other apps... but not Netflix.

I then tried to turn on enhanced features and link an account using the Sony Entertainment Network.  I could register the TV's on the website but could not activate premium services so again no Netflix.

I could really use a little help if anyone has successfully navigated through this process.

Thanks!

I have tried to get Netflix working on a similar Sony Model,
Got everything going except Netflix, the app would start loading then crash (Hulu worked however)

I got it going using Unotelly, they have a setting for Sony TV's that changes the region which global mode probably doesnt support

Try sign up for free trial of Unotelly, reset the tv and use those DNS settings to get it configured then switch back to globalmode once its setup

Great thanks, will give that a shot.

So did you get the app to show up on the TV, or did you go through the sony entertainment network route?

Would be great if global mode was extended to capture these bravia TV's too!

I got the apps showing on the TV,
I've actually attempted this with 2 Sony TVs, 1 worked and 1 refused to load the app no matter what I tried. both attempted with Unotelly

Once you get the apps I see no reason you cant just switch back to globalmode for ongoing use,  it should keep the apps.
The Sony's appear to only check on first connect after a factory reset (I could be wrong about this..)

I use netflix on a 2011/12 vintage Bravia KDL-40EX720 using unblock-us, and it works well. As soon as I updated the DNS addresses then netflix displayed. So definitely do-able.

Great thanks.

If unotelly and unblock-us can provide this solution it should be doable for global mode!

Did anyone check if you can stop using Unotelly once the Netflix ap is installled?

Based on my experience with a Sony BD player, you need Unotelly on an ongoing basis. Once the 'Sony region' changes, the device detects it and downloads an updated set of apps and tells you there is an update available. If you apply the update, you lose all the apps (or gain all the apps in the current Sony region). You can ignore the update and carry on using it I guess.

Hi there,

Unotelly was great with my KDL-46HX850 and Netflix was easily accessible and worked well. However once I removed the specific Unotelly DNS servers and went back to the Orcon servers, despite being able to still see the Netflix app on the TV, it would not launch Netflix.  So an ongoing subscription will most likely be required.

Interestingly on the KDL-46W700A using Unotelly I could still not get the Netflix app to load on the TV.  Again I suspect this has something to do with the Sony Entertainment Network - linking an account, activating enhanced features etc.  Somewhere in this process I think Sony is identifying that I am in NZ.

Is someone from Orcon able to confirm if they are looking at expanding the functionality of global mode to include Sony Bravias? I saw global mode as somewhat levelling the pricing equation vs the vodafone sky tie up discount.

Also if anyone has had any joy with Netflix and a W700A model sony it would be great to know.

Cheers
