I have a 256 plan,  I get 30kBps mostly, often 50kBps and not often 300kBytes per sec

The naked dsl is about to be rolled out so you could go for that option also.

Um the 2mb,  I hear it's nice but it is not 2mb all the time, sometimes it's only 1mb, but mostly I hear it's good.

If your into gaming you would want interleaving off (I think that's what it's called) which is only available for the max/128 and max/max plans.  These are the two plans that are currently available for naked dsl also.

I'm no maths genius... but Complaining your not getting 300KBps on a 256KBps plan ... kinda makes no sense.

30Kbps per second would be normal if your looking at an IE download window (256/8 = .. 32! omgosh!!)

O_o...

I didn't mean it to be read as a complaint, maybe you need a little more english lessions and not so much maths lol.
Was just pointing out how it is and some of the features that are only available on select plans.

I like that my connection with is base as 256k does 1mb at odd times, I guess when the nets got extra space,
kind of makes me want a faster plan, but i'm hanging out to see what new plans will be out in January.

Nah sorry again your wrong on that :) .. If your using your speed testers .. then they are unrestricted for all plans so we can get an idea of your maximum line speed ... thats HARD SET to give maximum line speeds available, so will give results based on your Line speed/contention ratio for your area (telecom controlled).

I think your understanding of how limiting your 256k plan works is in worse condition than my grammatical skills.

Cheers,
B

Well the 300k was a bit of a one off at like 2AM,  and I only ever expect 256k and smile when it's faster.
I base my speeds on download speeds from downloads, ie rnz.co.nz podcasts often do 512k for me, so I'm pretty sure what I was saying was true, base on my working results.

Sorry this has become personal, I didn't mean to drop to that level, just commenting on my case
and what an interestingly nice deal im getting from Slingshot.

*moderator lock this thread please lol, joking...*

I was just wondering if anyone here knows what Slingshots DNS address is? My sister bought a Belkin router which plugs into the main router as it doesnt have a dsl phone connection to it. She bought it because it has a wireless feature which she intends to use for her laptop. Anyway trying to get this to work proved to be a mission and in the end I rung up Belkin and they were very helpful and tried this and that and then he told me to ring Slingshot and find out what their DNS address was. After about half an hour of waiting I gave up. The problem I am having is that the Dynalink router she got when she signed up with Slingshot is connected to the internet, Her laptop connects to the Belkin router but there doesnt seem to be any talk between the two routers.

For probably the first time I feel like I have been 'gifted' something special from a telecommunications company. I'm with Orcon and I'm on the 256k/128k plan, and I can download up to 8 (using Firefox, IE and Opera) files concurrently with speeds of 50-60KB/s (not always though). I've read once before about people getting better than what they expect from them, but who knows how long it will last.  Orcon is more expensive than Slingshot, and there are always people complaining about Slingshot on the messageboards on Trademe.

edit: these speeds are per file.

Thanks Mauricio. I have since talked to my sister and she has taken it back and got another one that connects up to the phone line so shouldnt have any more problems.

Likewise Orcon, Xnet, Xtra, and pretty much every other ISP out there Timestyles.

Have to say my Slingshot connection is humming along, i'm currently gaming (at night) on Aus quake wars servers at 50-70ms. No issues with streaming, downloading etc. It's a 256k plan as well.

@Alroys:
If your xbox isn't going to do much downloading then the smaller plan should be ok. You can always change up if things don't seem to be coping well for the games.
