After having speed issues for 2 weeks that were finally resolved i have now moved house and am 2 weeks past Orcons promised connection date and still no internet!

Have had many phone calls and after hours of changing router settings etc Orcon are telling me the issue is something to do with authentication?

I have green lights on power, dsl and internet on the router
My laptop with pickup & connect to wifi but will say connection limited and will not load any webpages, all my other devices wont connect

We tried changing username & password 4 times under router settings but orcon said it wasnt updating on their end despite it saving on my end

Anyone have any advice or ideas on what i can do?

I see a few topics with similar issues but they were resolved without an explanation on this forum

Thanks in advance! ☺

Edit: more info
located in Feilding, Manawatu
ADSL "new" connection
any other info required ask and il try help, not very clued up with this stuff

I take it you asked Orcon to change this for you, correct?

I also take it this modem you are using isn't one from Orcon?

Did you try resetting your modem and putting in the details they give you?

Thanks :)

The issue is now resolved as far as i am aware. My internet is now working but havn't had any notifications from Orcon, would be good to get an explanation from them as to what the issue was

Heres hoping now more issues!

Unfortunately Im having more issues now :(

For the past week my connection speeds have been very unstable
After phone calls (hours) to Customer Service Im still no better off and still have consistently unusable net

My usual speeds are around 10down & 1up, for the past week it will drop suddenly to a fraction of those speeds.

As an example accessing my router Statistics under the xDSL menu it reads the router is receiving 12680Kbps down & 1080Kbps up, performed a speedtest on my laptop and was getting 0.85Mbps down & 0.08Mbps up!

I know F all about this kinda stuff but the issue does appear to be WiFi related, when my laptop is wired to router, WiFi on router is turned off & a fresh reset on it the issue will go away for a period or until the wifi button is turned back on

ADSL connection & router is a NF4V?
Any common issues with these Orcon supplied routers?

Wireless is really not a replacement for a wired connection. First check if there are other wireless networks around your place. If you have a smartphone you can use an app to check for different channels and change your router configuration to use a channel that is empty or has less access points to avoid conflict.

Also make sure the access point is not inside a cupboard, behind walls, etc. A higher location is better. Also important is the number of connections - how many smartphones, tablets, laptops, streaming devices, etc, etc are using this access point?

When you have these problems are there any other people (or yourself) using things like torrent, downloads, etc?

Also do you have a master filter installed on this connection?

That does sound like a WiFi issue - which means it's your problem, not Orcon's.

First step would be try changing to a different WiFi channel in the router.

I realise wireless is not a replacement but connecting phones and tablets without wifi is tricky haha
Any app in particular you would recommend for checking channels? I have changed router channels in the past but have never checked for amount of access points etc

Router is currently on a shelf. We do have multiple devices connected at times (4 max) but whenever this issue arises i disconnect them all, reset router then run a wired speedtest and get results shown in my previous post. Somedays the net is fine and will not cause issues though
I also check there are no downloads etc are happening

No master filter that im aware of

The advice to get a master filter install is a good one, failing that it sounds like you should log a fault - if everything is disconnected and you are still having slow speed like that, maybe there is an intermittent line fault.

But first - are you sure there's not something saturating your upstream, torrents, p2p, etc?

Soubnds very much like upstream saturation. Elimate that and let us know how you get on.
