Hey guys,

Having some connection issues with my wifes VPN for her work (Wanaka to Auckland)

It seems to point to an issue with either the Netcomm NF4V or the VDSL service.

VPN works at a friends house on Slingshot ADSL (NB604 modem) but will not connect at my house.

I have tested with two NF4v modems, both have the same issues, I have also done a firmware upgrade to remove the Slingshot branded firmware and still the same issues.

I have port forwarded TCP 1723 and UDP 1701, 500 and tried with ALG on and off for both IPsec and PPTP, Even tried disabling the firewall for a second but no change.
I have set up virtual servers on the port and set static IPs for the VPN and tried a few combinations of these settings too... Issue is present on two different machines and I cannot even telnet to the remote server via CMD or Terminal.

Testing has been done on both wifi and LAN with no change.

Ive had the VPN admin check and they cannot find anything either.

Keen on any ideas... I've run out.

The error is:

"The Network connection between you computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission, and is commonly the result of internet latency, or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists please contact the VPN admin and analyse quality of network connectivity."

My settings are:
Slingshot VDSL
Netcomm NF4v
Machines tested: Surface Pro 4, HP Envy and Macbook Pro.

Cheers,
Joe.

If your wife is connecting to the VPN at work you do not need to setup port forwarding.

Port forwarding is for opening connections in to your network, so if you were running a VPN server at home.

Check for any potential outbound firewalling, or if there is a pptp/vpn passthrough option

Thanks for the reply, Yes true, I had just read issues with NF4V without doing triggering / forwarding so gave it a shot.

No firewall present and from what I can see there is no passthrough option..

Update: I have also tested with the neighbours Vodafone VDSL connection and the VPN works fine so 100% something to do with the modem or Slingshot...

RESOLVED:

Turns out that the whole day I spent testing, the VPN server was down and the admin somehow didnt notice...

Once that came back up we removed port triggers/forwards and added ALG again and it worked...
