Hi new to this forum just wondering if anyone here is having problems with file sharing speeds and orcons I.T. i'm only getting about 5 kbs any time of the day or night and have contacted orcon,there I.T. guy asked for various information which i provided and nearly a week later not a word.i've sent 2 more emails asking if they are working on it or if others are having the same problem and i've had no reply.Can anyone tell me if they are having the same problem with filesharing and if this is normal for orcon staff.ive been generalley happy with service so far accepting the peak hour slow down but this is a waste of time.
Any replies appreciated.

yep read the other threads, im having same problem as you

I just called Orcon, they say there is no issue with BT and all international issues are fixed, so it would be good if everyone who is having this issue called their helpdesk and let them know there is still a issue..

Oy! There are Orcon staff on this forum, they know there are issues. They need to update the Status Page and brief the call centre.

I think problems still exist with Orcon and BT. I used to get 300Kbps and last couple of weeks it's been none or up to 25Kbps.

My international traffic to the UK took a hit a week or so ago but that seems to be OK at the moment.

BT is definitely broken though on Orcon.

Agreed, after switching to Orcon from Ihug, I no longer get my 400+ speeds, so generally leave it running overnight with auto shutdown on completed download enabled. On a positive side though, general web browsing is much, much faster. Most peculiar indeed.

Today (Thursday morning) and my BT speeds on Orcon are back to normal levels, getting about 300Kbps again. All is well.... for now....

I had a call from Orcon today, they told me the issues are due to lack of international bandwidth, and will be buying more next week!

Also thanks to Duncan for sending me a couple emails regarding the issue

FYI their system status page now says

Current Issues

Slow international content speeds

Some users are currently experiencing intermittent slow speeds when accessing international content on the Orcon network. This has been caused by a number of issues, including hardware failure (that has now been resolved). The outstanding issue is that because of the demand for our new ADSL2+ unbundled product exceeding our forecasts we are now waiting for additional international bandwidth to be provisioned. This should be available next week, we apologise for any inconvenience this causes in the interim.

Off overseas now, seeya!

Any of you guys using the Siemens SX 763 rental modem that comes with ADSL2 on Orcon?
I'm having a hellova time getting it to port forward. Wondering if you could compare your experiences, and check my numbers. I've probably just done something really noob so a fresh pair of eyes might help.

It used to work sweet on my old Dynalink. Running Vista business.
I followed ye olde guides from portfoward.com. SX552 is the closest they have,

Step 1 - Set up static IP
Instructions: http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm. Set mine up as...

ipconfig

Cool, internet still runs sweet and can browse :)

Step 2 - set a port in uTorrent
I used the random generator to pick one, and saved it at 59315

Step 3 - Set up port forwarding in router
Instructions: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Siemens/GigasetSX552/Utorrent.htm

Step 4 - Turned off my firewall and anitvirus completely. Opened uTorrent and ran port checker...
Error! Port 59315 does not appear to be open.

Any suggestions?

If you are using utorrent then just turn on UPNP support on the router and the software and it should do the port forwarding automaticlly.

Hmmm, no love there either...

Error! Port 59315 does not appear to be open.
(With Comodo disabled, Antivirus disabled, and SX763 hard firewall disabled)

I just know it's gonna be something so monumentally stupid on my part that I will be embarrassed. Still, stumped so any further suggestions?

Wow this is crazy. Got it going with another client, but can't for the life of me figure out why. For anyone interested, here's what I found.

(TLDR version - changed clients to BitTornado, everything works sweet)

Downloaded a client I used to like a long time ago (BitTornado), and opened the same torrent file that was currently running in uTorrent. BitTornado was on default settings so was grabbing a randomised port.

I had a look on my firewall and noticed it was listening on port 48201. (Also noticed that uTorrent didn't have any 'listening' port for some reason).
BitTornado reports connection status with a yellow light for firewalled, and green for full access. Was currently yellow. Even though it was firewalled though I was getting about 9kb/s, whilst uTorrent was either stalled or at 1kbps max.

So I thought what-they-hey, lets set up a second rule in the router for this new port. And bam, instantly the light turns green and my speeds start going up. Pretty cool. So I use the port forward test link from uTorrent to test this new port and lo and behold it showed as open! Yay.

Then I set uTorrent to the new port, and closed BitTornado. Hmm, no change in uTorrent speed yet, and still have the firewalled icon up, so lets test the port. This test showed port as closed. Turns out that the port is only open when BitTornado is running (which I have now fixed at port 48201).

Makes me immediately think of LennonNZ's advice regarding automatic port forwarding being arranged by the client. BitTornado's preferences have a setting which shows "UPnP port forwarding: type 1(fast)". Tried it with the port forwarding rule disabled in the router however and it went back to yellow light. So I definately need to have a port forwarding rule set up in there.
As you can see from my pics above, uTorrent has those settings turned on too.

So anyway, very strange. I cannot determine what BitTorrent has going for it that I can't enable in uTorrent, but at least I know it's not the router and that I've done all my static IP and port forwarding steps correctly.
Gonna stick with BitTornado for now. Hopefully this might help out anyone else who has been having simlar issues.
