Greetings,

we signed up with slingshot VDSL and as we semi rural VDSL was the fastest connection available. I've been using the FritzBox 7490 modem and fritz-Phone on vodafone vdsl with no problem at all , both working as it should be.

Followed the setup guide on the slingshot website for the FritzBox 7490 modem https://help.slingshot.co.nz/hc/en-us/articles/360001599234-How-to-set-up-DSL-on-a-Fritz-Box-7490

Got the DSL connection but no internet, have talked to slingshot many times the last weeks and they suggested that our modem has a fault. We have at our workshop the same modem and phone working on vodafone, took it home one night tested and has the same problem and modem log entries.

Modem log:

timeout during PPP negotiations

internet connection cleared

timeout during PPP negotiations

internet connection cleared

slingshot support say they don't see us logging in and /or having right or wrong login credentials. On another call the support reset the password . updated password on the fritzbox and still same.

What made me wonder about this issue as when we use the slingshot modem its connecting without changing the password on the slingshot router (slingshot has no access as we changed the router login password). Maybe they use hardware authentication.

Did asked another slingshot support person about this and he advised that they don't use ppp authentication and cannot help because they don't support 3rd party modems, have a nice day..

I have reset the modem to factory settings and tried the clear testing server connection and internet connection are fine.

prefer to use the Fritbox and maybe someone run in the same problem and knows a solution.

VDSL uses PPPoE where as ADSL uses PPPoA (which is mentioned in the article). Try PPPoE instead of PPPoA under Encapsulation:

https://help.slingshot.co.nz/hc/en-us/articles/360000116133-VDSL-Modem-Settings

  • Protocol - PPPoE
  • WAN Service Type - Internet_TR069
  • 802.1Q VLAN ID - 10
  • Priority - 0
  • IP Protocol - IPv4
  • PPP Username - [Username]@slingshot.co.nz
  • PPP Password - [Password]
  • Auth Mode - Auto
  • Dial-up Modem - Always On
  • MRU Size - 1492
  • MTU Size - 1490

Those instructions seem to be for ADSL, rather than VDSL.

Try VLAN 10, VPI 0, VCI 110, PPPoE.

Greetings and sorry for the late reply , tried the solutions and the one from dark shadow worked. Internet and fritz phone works great. thank you for your help very much appreciated.

Has anyone experienced with slingshot a kind of a delay, when open a new browser window it takes up to 10 seconds for the website to come up? when i hotspot the laptop with iphone its instantly displayed, so is it on our workshop wifi. Connect to slingshot at home and same delay again. Speedtest is fine no issues here 29 download and 4.3 up (VDSL) , ill checked on their website and updated the dns server on the fritzbox, but no change.

The DNS settings i have used:

IPv4 address:
Preferred DNS Server: 202.180.64.10
Alternate DNS Server: 202.180.64.11

IPv6 address:
Preferred DNS Server: 2404:4400::1
Alternate DNS Server: 2404:4400::2

is there maybe anything else i have missed?

thanks again
