Has anyone had experience negotiating price/perks with 2degrees when taking up a new monthly plan and an iPhone XR. (either in-store or on-line)

I have been with 2degrees for many years as a prepay customer, but looking to switch to a pay monthly plan along with an iPhone XR (with 24/36 months interest free repayment).

Are the staff members in-store (Auckland Central Areas) willing to negotiate in terms of pricing or perks?

The cheapest I found on 2degrees is $78.05 a month with iPhone XR 64BG, 36 months terms and $40 carryover plan.

If you had been a Postpay customer for years maybe you could of

But what actually are you trying to get it for?

I can't imagine they'd even think about discounting the handset...there's no margin and they're already offering interest free terms.

As a single, unique customer there wouldn't be a great deal of value in them offering a discount on the plan either.

Since you're attempting to go with one of the most cheapest plans and attempting to get a phone interest free I would actually be surprised if they're making any money off you in the first place.

Why not just buy the phone and stay on Prepaid?

Sometimes Noel Leeming or 2degrees offer $200 off the price of the handset for going onto an eligible pay monthly plan (usually the $40 plan).

I was in a similar scenario - I've been a 2degrees prepay customer for several years (paying around $30 - $50 per month as I moved between different value packs + roaming addons) and opted for pay monthly when there were some attractive offers for double data in addition to discount on the handset if I went on interest free.

Thanks guys for the replies.

What I was really interested was just seeing if there is better pricing when buying in person/in-store. "If you don't ask you'd never know".

Yes a newer model is released yearly so hoping iPhone XR maybe a bit cheaper. Perhaps some bonus (extra data...etc) can be thrown-in.

Not buying phone outright is take up the interest-free payments offered by 2degrees.

If you want want to get the phone on MRO but don't actually need the allocations of their $40 plan - you can go back to the store later and ask them to move you down to the $30 plan. Even though the system doesn't allow them to sign you up with a phone worth more than a few hundred dollars on that plan, it doesn't automatically remove it when the store staff downgrade the plan later if the MRO value is over that threshold. Essentially gives you $360 off if you're paying it off over the three years like mentioned in the OP.

The staff are meant to manually remove it, but yeah... That never happens. Which is why I'm currently paying off a XS Max on the $30 plan.

You need to wait 3 months before asking for plan change

What's the procedure for opening a post-pay account with an interest-free iPhone at a 2degrees store/online. Do they perform a credit check on the spot?

If the phone is in-stock, I am assuming I will be able to take the phone with me once the initial payment made and sim card switched (along with the pre-pay carryovers)?

I joined 2D a couple of years ago, but it was a really simple process - took around 10 min all up and I walked out with my new phone in hand. And yes - they do a credit check etc on the spot.
