I just switched to 2degrees broadband today (900/400Mbps plan) and did a speedtest via NPerf and am getting odd results. My speeds are showing approx 90Mbps down and 550Mbps up - what could be the cause of this?

I used to be with Slingshot (900/450 plan) and was getting around 300-400Mbps down and 300-400Mbps up.

These results were tested over wifi and nothing moved or changed between my Slingshot and 2degrees results.

Is it possible that the 2degrees team messed up my order, and instead of giving me 900/400, they put me on a 100/400 plan? Still I find it strange my upload speed is so high.

Any thoughts?

Do not test over Wi-Fi and test using the speedtest.net App

It takes a few moments after you're connected for them to fully provision your connection. Until then, it is limited slightly. It is normally rather instant but sometimes it'll take a few hours or so.

Give them a quick call else wait a few hours and it'll get up to speed.

there is no such thing as a 100/400 plan either.

Thanks for the tips, Ill wait a few days and keep you guys updated if any changes occur

As the ONT is downstairs and my computer is upstairs I am unable to use wired connection.

However the point remains, yesterday Slingshot I did a speedtest and was getting 300-400Mbps up and down.

Today, exact same setup I am getting 90Mbps down / 550Mbps up.

Speedtest.net and Nperf both return similar results:

Try a speedtest off one of the 2degrees servers, should see a better result

When I upgraded my plan from 100/20 to 900/400 the upload happened first and then the download some time after. Wasnt a huge delay between the two... hour or two maybe. But long enough to chuckle about having faster upload than download.

Give it a bit of time. And if its still not behaving tomorrow (or a few days later) give them a call.

Over the past few years I've connected to gigabit fibre at 3 different addresses (most recently 2 weeks ago) and every time the same thing (download sub 100, upload 400+) and has always sorted itself after a couple of hours :)

Update:

Problem solved. Getting 500/500 now which is good.

The problem was solved by giving 2D a call, the customer service lady was able to adjust the speed on her end, and once she flipped the switch, my speed instantly shot up.

May I ask if you are using your own router or the one provided by 2degrees ?cause that 500/500 speed test over wifi is impressive

I use an Asus router and wireless network adapter. It wasn't a cheap setup so that's why I was originally rather disappointed with the download speeds

This is why I don't like consumer networking products and think they're a waste of money.

I get higher performance from my UniFi NanoHD combined with just my MacBook Pro. My partners computer gets around 600Mbit from a cheap TP-Link adapter in her PC. Total for this setup comes in at half the cost you spent.

Though I am happy with my current setup, I do wish I had ran into your router guide earlier. It answers a lot of questions I was pondering.

You recommend a lot of networking products that I've never heard of (Ubiquiti, Mikrotik etc) - how do these products compare to others such as Google Wifi, Netgear Orbi?

Prior to purchasing my current setup, I did look into Google Wifi as well as the Netgear Orbi.

I passed on both of these as I read that their max theoretical Wifi speeds are quite limited (around 300-500Mbps).
