its almost official now. the backers of nz communications are about to run out of money. there investors are running around town trying to raise money for a further cash injection. but given there past performance who would wants to put money in? i saw the same senior exec as my previous post and his face says it all. hes about to have a breakdown. they are DESPERATE!!!! apparently a big reason for there delays is they havent had enough funds to pay councils for RMA consents and the reason there colocations havent worked is because they cant afford to pay for them.....

and one other that i dont quite believe.....

apparently another problem is they were trying to be cheap and had all of there building drawings done in INDIA!!!!???? seems the indian building code and RMA is different to NZ and this has caused more delays with most having to be redone again here. if true i rekon that management must be sacked. double the work double the cost double the delays..... like i said im not 100% about that one but if its true then no wonder they cant build a network!!!!!

It will be sad if that is infact true.

I do know that their network rollout at present is currently going very, very well. There are a huge number of people working on this and cellsites are popping up virtually on a day by day basis. I even spotted them working on a site yesterday so it's obviously extending beyond Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm!

No need to sack them if the company closes down...

If this is true i hope they do get bailed out. If they don't, i wonder if they will sell the equipment to telecom/vodafone.

I don't beleive this is true. I'm involved with the NZCL site roll-out, and as far as everyone is concerned it's full steam ahead!!

Any chance you can provide links or name your informers Informer?

err yeah i would be interested to know too, as I work in the energy industry and see their cell towers getting new setups all the time all over the place? Laughing So would be nice to have your source to actually sign up and face the community.

I'm skeptical too.  Having a look at their website http://nzcomms.co.nz/ they had an investor buy 25% of the company 4 months ago. How likely is that if they are about to fail?

Oh by the way, how many telecommunications companies do you know that are privately owned?  If/once NZC gets running, I'm sure that it will 'go public', why not now??? I'd spend a weeks wages on shares, doing so would save me money once competition gets going.

Case in point: Kiwibank.  Before they came along, I paid about $200 a year in bank fees for my two accounts.  Now I pay about $20.

I am aware of people being interviewed for positions there even up to this week. Sounds like FUD to me.

While I wont be changing from my current mobile provider, it will be good to see some competition outside the big two.

Also http://www.stuff.co.nz/4717731a28.html:

It ended the year with net assets of $126 million, including $75.2 million cash in the bank.

The company is still likely to require significant additional funding from its overseas private equity backers to complete its network.

I guess that means it has $50 million of network assets - not a lot so it would appear it still has a long way to go.

The Colo deal on 116 towers will surely help ;)

I have noticed 4 new NZC towers appear near my house over the last few months.. they're definitely still actively deploying their network

A few new sites in Wgtn including Taita Railway Stn and Newtown over the past few weeks.

Interestingly they have already co-located in Wellington with Vodafone on some existing sites on buildings (ie not masts) with the Newtown site and Taranaki St site being two examples. I wonder if the 116 includes this or whether it is co-lo on masts?

I think on building sites would be negotiated with the building owners, so probably not officially a co-lo site. This too is one of the catches with co-location. It's all very well getting the "rights" to co-locate, but at the end of the day it's upto what the property owner agrees on.

These 116 sites a probably sites where Vodafone owns/leases land, or have space on their masts.

I'd say the colo refers to VF's masts.. but not 100% on that

The sites I've seen go up are all 3 panel configs on top of street lamps
