First time poster so please bear with me.

I can't send any emails as my Slingshot IP address has been blacklisted on spfbl.net.

The removal of my IP from this blacklist depends on Slingshot changing the "rDNS to match the FQDN of the mail server".

Slingshot's response is that they can't remove my IP from the blacklist.

Are my only choices to change internet provider or pay Slingshot extra for a new, static IP?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

So which IP address has been black listed.

The static IP address assigned to your router / connection?
or
The IP address of Slingshots SMTP server?

Whats the exact error/bounce you get ? Paste it here (omitting your IP etc)

It sounds like you need to configure your DNS PTR record. It should resolve both ways. For IPv4, Slingshot will need to do this for you, assuming you have a static IP. If it's dynamic, that's the problem.

No, this isn't strictly required, but without it you will find yourself blocked sending to some servers. These days DKIM and SPF are probably given a greater empasis than blacklists (or at least they should be), but if you haven't got your domain PTR configured, chances are you don't have these configured either. Even if you change IP, you'll just end up on the blacklist again.

Note, some blacklists should be ignored. Some administrators will check against every blacklist they can, even if their policies are nonsense.

He wont need PTR if using SS's servers unless SS dont have it themselves :D

What IP/Server is sending you that message ? Its odd to mention a username :-/

Completely agree here. It looks like your account doesn't have permission to send. @Vankur Was the blacklist mentioned in the error message or did you find it while trying to work out what the issue was?

There are a few other things to check...
1) The SMTP server you're sending to. Is it the right one?
2) Are you sending to port 25 or 587? Port 25 is often configured to not allow e-mail to be sent through it.
3) Are you using any SSL/TLS settings (e.g. STARTTLS). Authentication may not be offered if not.

550 is a generic error message, so any of the above could be an issue (and likely other things as well).

Okay. Ignore what I said previously about PTR records etc. That (and the blacklist) only applies if you run your own mail server.

You almost certainly should be sending via Slingshots mail server. They will be able to assist with the username being black-listed. It may not be an issue with the username specifically, it could be another configuration issue as mentioned above, or an unsupported client (E.g. TLS related). Slingshot will be able to assist you with getting that working.

A DNS RBL issue isn't their problem, no. If you tell them what you are seeing when you try to send e-mail through their servers, they will be able to help.

I informed Slingshot that the blacklist site said that my IP was dynamic and that my ISP needs to change the rDNS to match the FQDN of the mail server.

Only the ISP can get my email delisted from spfbl.

I think Slingshot understands all of this less than I do!
