Has anyone got WiFi calling working with 2degrees on a Nokia 7.1. The phone supports wifi calling but it's not showing as an option.
I have a Moto G7 that wifi calling worked on while I was waiting for a new screen for the nokia. The 7.1 is a much better phone so want to keep using it but 2degrees has poor reception at my work desk. Wifi calling was handy there.

Phone: Google Nexus 1 , stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 Self Rooted.

WiFi calling is not 100% universal and requires a network to support individual handsets to work, and in the case of Android often operator (or country) specific firmware to work. If your phone is not working it means 2D do not support it

With almost all plans having unlimited calling unless you have poor coverage at home I don't see the point

The point being is that cellular coverage even in our cities is not 100% by any means. Many people like myself live in blackspots with our neighbors with no other option than wifi calling or a landline.

The one annoying thing is the lack of roaming - if you start a phone call on WiFi and walk away from coverage the call will die.

I know, unrelated to the Nokia situation but just a warning.

And I agree that is a perfect use case for it, and am not denying that but where coverage is not a problem I don't see the need unless your on a $19 prepay

Why would being on a $19 prepay make any difference? For charging purposes within NZ a WiFi Calling voice call / sms is treated the same as over cellular (eg. will come from plan allowance).

For international roaming things get significantly better in almost every scenario for WiFi Calling - charged as if you were still in NZ (so free to receive calls, call & sms back to NZ / Oz at normal plan rates, so free if on unlimited).

the whole roaming thing is quite an interesting one. there is so many different ways to implement it, all with their own pros and cons.

I am really only interested because work is in the middle of a glass box quite a fair distance away from the closest 2degrees tower, so i often have no signal or one tieeny tiny bar which comes and goes. I found it quite handy on the moto G7, but that phone is not as good as the nokia 7.1, I often only have one bar at home too. I dont care about roaming in/out of wifi as I dont tend to walk around when taking the few calls I get, and my whole house and work is well covered by wifi.

It just seems a but daft that a "unsupported" moto G7 works, but an "unsupported" Nokia 7.1 doesnt.

Anyone actually from 2 degrees like to weigh in on why its not supported - I did try a support request last week but never got a reply.

You put in a support ticket to 2degrees for a non supported device that 2degrees don't even retail?

It will be possible to hand off from VoWifi to VoLTE once that goes live. But we have no plan to hand off directly from VoWifi to CS.
