I had a few questions for you experts out there.... I just go connected to Orcon today, relatively fast hookup time since I only called or Thursday or Friday so I was thrilled. However, when I plug in a phone into the outlet, no dial tone on the line, and no ADSL link light on the modem/router combo. I tried on two different jacks in my apartment and same on both. I called the orcon guys, they confirmed my setup job was completed but I still had no connection.. They said a tech would come out tomorrow and try switching the port on the exchange for us. We live in Parnell so its a relatively central area.
I was just wondering what are some of the things I should try to troubleshoot further ? I did notice my PPoE which I assume orcon uses was not setup for my account. Do I have to set PPoE for the link light to come on the modem or is that something that has to be done afterwards? I have a D-Link 504T Modem/Router combo, and I'm not sure what are the key settings I need to configure in order to maximize my connection.
I'm hoping the port change works, as the only other option they gave was to come in and check the lines and charge a connection and wiring fee. Its not an old building and I'm certain the last tenants had a phone line setup through Telecom in there so hopefully we get a dial tone tomorrow. Was looking forward to testing out some kickass speed ;)
