Data capable network. Just no data plans available. You can use it, but you'll pay for it. $0.50/MB.

Do you really use 100MB per month?

I have a 1GB plan for my iPhone and never even gotten close to that, with YouTube-ing and all.

Folks, please read my updates...

The network is data capable. There's GPRS and EDGE services from the start, 3G will be enabled later (network is HSPA capable).

There isn't a data plan, all traffic is charged at casual rates.

Casual rate is $0.50 per megabyte. That's 50 cents, not 50 dollars.

50c/MB seems really high though, compared to Xt and Voda's $1 for 10MB casual rate

2D rates are more like overage charges.

Please remember that after the first 10MB on Vodafone, it's $1/MB.

true,  which is why I said "more like overage charges"

If you use more than 10MB in a single day though then chances are you are using a decent amount per month, which means you should probably be on a data plan - which work out even cheaper still than 50c/MB.

e.g. Voda's 100MB/month plan is ony $10.  Xt has similar plans.

I usually get through 100 - 120 MB/month, including ActiveSync to my Exchange server and some browsing...

On a plan, yes. But, as you know by now, there are NO plans. Just simple pricing.

simple pricing is great, when it works out to be the same price or cheaper than the more complex pricing.

But for data (which is what this thread is about)  2D pricing is (so far) massively above what Telecom or Voda charge.

There is harldy any volume of usage where 2D works out chepaer than Xt or Voda for data.

They have a GSM network that supports EDGE. They won't really be interested in data users at present as they have no capacity.

Onc their 3G launch occurs I'm sure they'll welcome data users.
