Hi.

I am thinking of changing to 2 degrees but I am wondering if the prices will stay the same or will they change?

Thanks for the help

You would think they won't play with prices. But the way the ads are worded if they get a good up take the prices could go down rather than up.

I interpreted that part of the ad as referring to the 22cent calls within the 2degrees network after topping up.

Well if they can offer this cheap, that really shows that vodafone and telecom can do it to and we have been ripped off so much.

I'm pretty sure 99% of the country knew we were being ripped off long before 2degrees launched with lower prices.

Huh?

2talk are not a mobile provider. They are a VoIP provider offering PSTN services. They also don't provide mobile numbers, the 02x range are non geographic numbers and don't terminate on a mobile network.

And no VoIP over GSM will not work. While the bandwidth over EDGE isn't too bad the latency is horrible.

i think you have to remember that they have no stores yet, so that is a big chunk of money that is not being taken up.

VoIP over 3g is possible? I've had a Skype conversation with a friend on my laptop connected to Vodafone 3g and the latency didn't seem bad at all. I was actually very impressed.

Yes.

I'd typically use probably at least an hour a month of VoIP calling over Vodafone 3G from my E71 which has a SIP stack built in.

Depends on the a huge number of factors, primararily the codec and the RTP packet size (ie how long the voice payload is in ms).

As very rough ballpark figure approximately 15 - 25MB per hour for a G.729 call.

That's not bad at all really is it?

In the latest version of Skype, they claimed the new codec they implemented used about half the bandwidth of the previous codec....

Don't Vodafone have rules against VoIPing over their data network? Or don't they care anymore.... they can't really tell you what you can and can't use the data for can they?

Ignoring whether or not I should be doing it or not, are there any iPhone apps or jailbroken apps that will allow me to VoIP over 3G to a loved one on a fixed ADSL line?

As far as I know, its not a matter of not being allowed to do it, as it is "We don't support this, so don't expect us to care if you have problems"

correct me if im wrong though.
