Hi there I have the Platinum+ ADSL plan with Orcon.

I’ve noticed that my theoretical max speed as reported on the router/modem has recently fallen from 16mb/s to 12mb/s

this has been accompanied by a reduced download/upload speed – dropping from 12/13mb/s to anywhere from 6-10mb/s

Ping times/Latency has also increased quite considerably.

 I’m in St Lukes and on an LLU network.

 Questions;

  1. Has contention increased?

  2. Has Orcon remotely throttled my connection speed on the router with a firmware upgrade?

  3. Is Orcon shaping traffic leading to reduced connection speed?

  4. Is any activity (by Telecom I assume) leading to degradation of service?

Oh, and... Youtube is now unusably slow on 3 Mac laptops, 1 PC laptop, 1 desktop, iPhone, iPod Touch & a WinMo phone. This can't be right

I would check to see if a cabinet has been put inbetween you and the exchange. Especially if your connection speed has dropped.

Log a fault with the support team. They will be able to assist you.

Right on bro, they have great service but something has to be done in regards to download speeds. ESPECIALLY if one has a 35GB limit like me who likes to spend the evenings downloading. I think they have a database of users who they throttle depending on their download type. My boss has Orcon and it's always fullspeed but he doesn't download.

I think you almost have to bribe them saying you'll leave unless they fix this. I understand that if all the downloaders are taking all the bandwidth from those normal users, and then the normal users have a frustrating time but then again they're not payign as much as we are.

As said their service is great, but I sincerely considering changing to XNet since I already have a phone line with them

Tell me about it.

Still have an on going issue with Orcon, still not fixed.

EDIT: I'll be expecting some form of compensation for this. Just called in, and what do you know, cant even speak to anyone about it.
Paying for ADSL2+ and getting ADSL1 is not fun when you have a few users in the house using the same internet, it's unbelieveably painful.
