I thought i'd best post this as a seperate topic to my other question, as it's a bit more involved and i'd be really keen to hear from other NakedDSL users.

I have a monthly data cap of 6gigs, and don't automatically purchase any extra blocks of data. however i routinely run out before the end of the month so use their website to buy an extra 3 or 10 gigs of data access.

According to the slingshot website, on nakedDSL i don't have to pay for the dial up speed data beyond the 6gigs (as below c+p from slingshot.co.nz)

"SPEED LIMITING - Have your plan speed reduced to dial up and you will not have to pay an extra penny. You can still choose to buy additional data if you wish."

BUT... every time i purchase a block of data, the information page updates, to say i've used 6.7gigs or whatever of a now available 9gigs or 16gigs. So how is it that i'm penalised anywhere from 300megs to 900megs every time i purchase a block of extra data?

If i wasn't been charged (...will not have to pay an extra penny) for anything over my allocated 6gigs, how come my freshly purchased data takes an instant hit every time?

Has anyone else noticed this happening?

If you buy more blocks, you have to also pay for the data used while it was on the Slowed rate.
Yes, it's not fair, I think all the ISP's do it.

Did you know you can you grade your naked dsl plan to Slingshots new plans, with Free of Peak data and Unused data blocks don't expire at the end of the month. Phone the help desk to change.

I'm pretty sure that the reason this happens is that some ISPs can't (and others don't bother) to distinguish between bandwidth used uncapped and bandwidth used capped.

The costs of slingshot revamping the data accounting system would end up costing you more. Why not use the extra purchased data when your base data expires and then use the 64k data after your topup block expires?

I asked Slingshot "Will data used when the line is capped to 8kBps continue to be counted on your data usage.
That causes some people who buy smaller datablocks to find they have already used it.

The cap speed data should be written off and counted as if it was free data period.
" in their forums,
and they are looking into it.
