Hello everyone, firstly i wanna introduce my self for this is my very post in these forums, i'm mike and now down to business if i may please.
I'm just wondering if my current connection with slingshot is similar to anyone else on similar plans in here. I'm not too clue'd up on such matters and was hoping someone here can shed some light on my situation, I will provide information on my connection and why I've come to question it.

- I live on Birkdale Road and from what I gather there is an exchange on Birkdale Road and I am around 2.0 km away from it.
Why:
- My friend who is also on slingshot but who is 600 meters from the exchange is getting attainable rates of roughly 15000 kbps (DS) but his Upstream is much lower around 300 kbps with an rta1025w.
- Before I switched over to the Next Big Thing i used to get 1000kB download speed but now i just get 750kB/s maybe 800kB/s on a good night.
- Saw a post by a member (CamH) from this thread http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=81&topicid=57724 with his signature pic of 14.42Mb/s download speed.
I've read on other forums (whirlpool) that certain modems with certain chipset can get reach different sync speeds. So I've tried multiple modems namely two rta1320 once with 3.30j & 3.64y firmwares and one dlink dsl-502t gen2 with latest firmware. The results were similar with rta1320 3.30j and the dlink but i got slower speeds with the rta1320 with 3.64y fw.
Slingshot Techies assure me that im on an ADSL2+ connection but it only feels like ADSL2 to me.
I've done Isolation tests on all 3 of our phone jacks with similar results on all 3 modems.
So really i'm just wondering if my connection is behaving as it should be, how can i get speeds like CamH, will buying a new modem help my situation (looking at tp-link td-8840) or would it be a waste of money.
I apologize if this is an overload of information and would appreciate it if anyone can help me with this? Is there anything for me to be worried about or should i just accept that this my speed and it will not change.
thanks, mike
