Hi there,

I recently changed from Vodafone prepay to Slingshot More Talk, the changeover occurred this morning and as far as voice and txt goes everything appears to be working fine.

As per my previous topic I was very keen on maintaining fast data speeds after the changeover, however setting up the internet connection on my Nokia E52 hasn't proved straightforward.  I tried setting up an Internet access point as per the information on the Slingshot website:

Data bearer: Packet data
Access point name: www.slingshot.net.nz
User name: none
Prompt password: no
Password: blank
Authentication: normal
IPv4, Automatic IP address and DNS, Proxy server none and port 0

When I try to connect using this access point, a dotted connection symbol appears (tries to connect) but blinks and then stops.

I then called the Slingshot helpdesk and they sent a txt message containing configuration settings, I installed these and it enabled a connection to the internet.  However, it connected in a different way (looked like GPRS instead of 3G) and it appeared to be slower.  I checked and it is using the following settings:

Packet data, APN: wap.callplus.net.nz, proxy server 172.30.38.3 port 8080 - otherwise as above.

I called the helpdesk again and said I would like to use the Internet access point (www.slingshot.net.nz, no proxy) as per the information on the Slingshot website.  The chap I spoke with tried very hard but after a long time on the phone we couldn't make any headway, he could only suggest I use the WAP gateway.

Then he said that the Internet access point (www.slingshot.net.nz) is not currently available and the only way I can access the internet is via the WAP gateway and proxy server.  He thinks that this is slower but he says I have no choice.  I asked specifically about differences between Slingshot and Vodafone mobile internet but he couldn't give me a conclusive answer.  The chap was very polite and did do his best but he just didn't have the answers.  In the end he logged a fault ticket and said I would get a call back within 24-48 hours.

After hearing that the www.slingshot.net.nz APN is not available I'm concerned that I will have a poorer internet experience on Slingshot than Vodafone, however without knowing the technical differences between the different APNs etc I don't really know what to expect.

If there is anyone who could confirm the situation with the APNs etc and offer advice on what settings to use to obtain the best connection it would be greatly appreciated.

I tried it out this morning and it appears to be behaving the same as yesterday.
Any further comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
