I had a Italk service and Telstraclear home line. I decided to cancel the Telstra line as the ITalk was working OK on my broadband. So on guidance from Slingshot, I canceled my Telstra line and my Italk number as they said they could give me the same number. I now can make calls but cannot receive them.
I have been trying for days to get through to the Slingshot call center but spend literally 10mins at a time in a queue waiting for someone to answer.

Any advice?

Thanks

you need to wait longer in the queue. Last time I called them waited 77 minutes before my call was answered. They did manage to fix my ital problem pretty quickly though - wasn't able to make international calls to citys with an area code of more than two digits. - e.g. could call Japan for example +81 3 xxx xxxx but could nto call +81 182 xxx xxxx

I think you should switch service providers. Try 2talk.

Not being able to recieve calls in but being able to make them out is usually a config issue with your modem/router.

I had enable an option called 'Disable SIP ALG' in my router to get it to work. It's a common problem, if you google it you should find out how to fix it.

Switching to 2talk won't help, except that the phone will probably get answered quicker when you call in.

Cheers,

Scott

Well at least he would not have to wait 77 minutes for them to pickup the phone just to get some support.

If you want to keep your d line line number and asked Telstraclear to disconnect your number that sounds lime the cause of hot problem

Normaly italk handles all the change over including disconnecting of the land line so they can port your number across, if you disconnect it yourself your old lNd line number is returned to telecom

The modem worked fine before I changed numbers with a different Italk number, all I did was change the user and password. I canceled the number as per Italk.
Perhaps I should cancel and start again...... they don't phones, they don't respond to emails, but I suppose you get what you pay for..

Cancel and start again, slingshot customer service is non existent so I don't think you going to get anywhere. italk also has its own forum where you may be able to get help.

don't waste your time wiht the italk forums. I don't think there has been a reply to a problem there for two to three years.

Frying pan to the fire?? hmmm.... well 10 minutes isn't long to wait for customer service these days, especially if you call at peak times (ie same time as everyone else) so either try calling in morning or mid afternoon or just wait forever and ever.

If you cancelled your Telstra number then its impossible for anyone to port that number to a new provider, its already gone. You might be able to reactivate the number and then try to get it ported again. The ALG problem is also possible since not all modems implement it that well, but then it should never have worked so I would say you must have cancelled the telstra number too early.

Time to find a new industry!
