hi guys, i've been researching for the right setting for the APN settings for my phone but i just cant seem to do it right.
my phone is samsung galaxy i5800, (but it says i5801 on the software =S) bought it on the internet and i've recently brought my 021 number to 2degrees.
i've followed various topics to set it up but with this settings(http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=69830) apn settings actually disappear and shows no 3G/edge connection on the phone
and when i set it with this one (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=66282) it shows the connection but doesnt work.
i saw somewhere that it only with works with My Market and such but doesnt apply here( comeplete failure on mine lol)
so anyway can you guys help me plz and is there a way to get my phone to recognise my number from 021 on the phone? ( in the setting option-about phone-status it shows unknown on mine =[ )
i've talked to the support team but they cant solve the problem, and i've discovered that even after i've ported my number from vodafone it still displays vodafone as network operators.
does this mean that i have to set my APN settings to vodafone?
and i read an article about some type of motorola handset having a similar problem as i do (imported handset, APN settings and stuff even porting the number) and they solved the problem by getting a blank sim card.
would this be the possible problem?
Im really lost now, i thought there was a fault on the actual hardware but now im confused about the whole situation. =S
You are probably roaming on Vodafone. Is there a "R" next to the signal strength bar?
settings > wireless and network > mobile networks > data roaming (ticked) + Network mode (auto) + Network operators > (select automatically) - it will do a network search how many networks did it find?
After spending a day and a half of researching and talking to the operators from 200, still couldnt get it working and this time i was trying to figure out if it was the actual handset or the sim card that was causing the problem, so i popped the sim card back into my old phone which was vodafone handset
but of course it wouldnt work, so thought it was the simcard so i mentioned that article i read earlier to the operator but we had to go every possible option there is.
anyways after that time consuming procedure i finally got the blank simcard!! and they tranferred my account to it.
now guess what, after a minute or so what do u know? BAM! 3G is actually working!!
simple, quick solution right there. but i had to spend that much time to adjust, check, go thru the internet configuration enough time to make me memorise the settings. and of course i had to explain what was wrong to maybe all the operators from 200 (im pretty sure they know who i am by now lol).
my point is, we're not stupid u dont have to go thru the same procedure over and over again cuz it's obvious it's not working. otherwise we wouldnt call back.
next time someone has a problem and asks for help, try to get them to read what the previous operator had noted down or something so it's not so time wasting.
but thanks to the operator that helped me thru this morning for about an hour, he was really patient and i felt like he was actually HELPING me.
To conclude this experience and the problem, i think it's to do the porting the number and imported handset together. I may be wrong but im just happy that i finally got it working and hopefully this post helps people that are having similar problems
oh by the way thanks andrew for ur support, u gave me the idea to call 200 lol i was going to go to samsung service center lol
Sorry for the problems you had with the SIM. So we can look into this further can you PM with your 2D number and the SIM numbers, working and not working (if you still have it).
