Im wanting a larger broadband plan and thought slingshot might be the way to go
free usage off peak seemed like a good idea, but reading these complaints seems possibly not.
Currently im on vodafone 30gb and doubling to get 60gb but wanting more.
So should I stay away from them? if so any better ideas?

I am in Dunedin if this makes any difference.

Thanks

ever since they releaced that new broadband plan...

and then the earthquake just made it 10 times worse.

D;

we're on a caped plan.

they STILL haven't fixed it.

we used to get 16mbps down 24/7 but now its up and down and up and down UGH

Maybe this is a sign that i should put the laptop down and go outside.

There speed is not bad, and the offpeak is good. If you need any sort of support or if there is any need to contact them they are hopeless.

You can switch and hope nothing goes wrong and it will be a good experience, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone unless you need a lot of data

Our neighbours (semi detached townhouse) have Slingshot, we both have similar line sync speeds back to our local exchange (around 17Mb/s) yet I can pull 15Mb/s speedtests out of the ChCh or Auck servers pretty much anytime of the day (I am on Telecom), where as our neighbours stuggle with 200kb/s

Avoid at all cost is my comment.

Yip agree with most here, dodge this one mate, I'm on the lookout for a decent streaming video ISP.

One guy pointed out on gpforums, if you read the official slinghot forums on their site you can gather that Since AYCE:

- Significant performance decrease for all non-AYCE customers at peak times
- Significant performance decrease for all customers in off-peak times
- AYCE performance remains average at best

Avoid imo.

yeah the speed is bad, we just moved from vodafone 30g to slingshot unlimited, man even watching youtube need to refresh 2~3 times in order to watch it completely, even slower than my 2degree mobile broadband! Good thing is gaming ping stay with adsl lvl.

yeh, theres threads throughout NZ regarding slingshots youtube performance, I'm just waiting for my 12 month period to expire and I'm gone, had enough, I've had a constant 30 kb/s for the last few months, and all they can say is 'submit a ticket, that line is wearing really thin with me and many others - http://forums.slingshot.co.nz/viewforum.php?f=15&sid=96834ac1e20baa28e53f990f3c57980a just look at all the streaming related threads, one of their network admins has a bad attitude on their forums to, an arrogant attitude towards customers who have come forth about this problem, cya slingshot, next time how about some honest marketing, don't just advertise for the sake of beefing up your customer base, the lying will eventually catch up with you.

I just moved from Orcon to the Slingshot AYCE plan. Its quite a bit slower (less than half what I used to get) but I was expecting that, and the unlimited data and lower price more than make up for that. Browsing and streaming video work great, downloads through the service I can't mention without violating rules 1 & 2 are pretty good. Haven't tried torrents, but I wouldn't think they would be very good.

TV3 Ondemmand doesnt even work on slingshot.

Although TV3's flash player makes it worse by not allowing pre-buffering. Pre-buffering at least makes youtube usable if you pause the video first and come back a min later.
