Hi there! I'm a 2degrees pay monthly customer with a ported number on an iPhone 3G using iOS4.2. I need to get tethering going and I have found out it is a carrier issue. I tried sticking a prepay vodafone sim in and the tethering option came up straight away however with my normal 2degrees sim that option is unavailable.

Can anyone help me please?

Many Thanks!

The reason for this is that you most likely loaded a carrier bundle when on os 3 and that had lost the tethering.

There is a fix (and only one fix)

You need to do a full restore then sync back your music / apps etc - this is the only way to get tethering back on the iphone 3g (original 3g not 3gs) you'll need to redo your settings / email etc too

BTW this fix has worked for some and not others so if it doesn't work then you'll have to wait for apple to release an os upgrade - they seem to have dropped support for the 3g in 4.3 so you might be out of luck - we'll wait and see

Its easy as, just add in the carrier info, I have it working with 2.
Ported numbers... blah; doesn't matter, just get the details right. http://www.iphonewzealand.co.nz/iphone-settings/manual-carrier-settings/

No that won't work, on the iphone 3g (original 3g) apple disabled tethering for non official carriers - the tethering option just simply isn't there.

I have a 3g and 3gs both on XT with ios 4.2.1 - the 3gs has tethering option the 3g doesn't.
