I've got this weird situation with my Slingshot broadband/homeline bundle.  I was on AYCE for the past year and just changed to Broadband 100 bundle last week.  From day 1 up to today my phone keeps calling this number automatically on a daily basis at the same time.   The time would vary after a few weeks but it's always the same time when it changes.
Below is sample phone record from my latest billing.

Once it dials out I lose my internet connection and have to reset my modem/router.  I scanned our PCs for malware, viruses and internet diallers but didn't find any.  I tried calling that number and it sounded like a fax machine.    I've tried turning off and un-plugging all our PC's plus the modem/router for a few days while we were away but my phone record stills shows the daily outgoing calls.

It's a minor irritation for now to have to reset my modem/router daily and besides there's no charge for it.   But this was not happening when I was with Telecom before I shifted to Slingshot last year.

Any ideas?

Do you have MySky? Monitored alarm?

I would suggest a monitored alarm, hence the reason the internet drops out as the alarm is siezing the line and dropping the remaining house circuit to do its dial out, too things you should do. If you dont have an alarm monitoring contract then get an security company to turn the monitoring off, if you do have a monitoring contract then ask the company to sort it, and finally get a central filter installed, this will stop it from effecting the DSL and ensure its not effecting line speed.

Is there a computer plugged in directly to phoneline, eg used for fax software.

Does SKY ring out? I noticed my MYSKY is plugged into phone line but not sure if it dials out. I wouldn't think so but if you do have SKY unplug it from phone line to test.

Do you wake up sometimes wondering where you are and how you got there?
You might have split personality and your other ego doesn't like the phone line and unplugs then replugs it back in.

Unlikley, but something to think about.

You might not have an alarm but it all points out to something like that. Is this your property? When did you buy it? Did previous owner or landlord had an alarm installed and service interrupted before you took over?

I rang the numbera and it is a ContactID reciever (not a Fax Machine).

Did you change your modem?
The way to fix this is to runn an un filtered line to your modem then the rest of the house via a splitter and the alarm. i.e.

                               ---Filtered Line-----------Alarm IN - Alarm Out-------House Phones
Line in-----ADSL Filter
                               ---Unfiltered Line---------ADSL Modem

The issue certainly sounds like an alarm or such.

Obviously the internet disconnecting is a symptom of the device dialling the line, and a line cannot dial itself, so chances are there is a device of some type doing so.

If it is at the same time every day it is nice and easy to test. Pick a day, and as that time it always happens is approaching unplug all your phones, your internet etc and leave them off, then see if (In your visibill records) the call goes through.

If so, you know your equipment is fine and something else is up, in which case you likely need to trace your internal wiring
If there is no dialling, then you know one of your devices is suspect and can try them one by one on following days till you figure it out.

Hi, just as cisconz did I rang that number and got a contactID response, that is an alarm server, therefore I would say with 99.999% certainty that you have an alarm system in the house which purhaps you dont use but still its there and across the line and for whatever reason has decided to dial home, presumably a previous owners setup.

Thanks for all the responses, looks like it's an alarm. As I mentioned in my first post, it is really weird because:

1. There was indeed a non-monitored alarm in the house 5 years ago when we first moved in but I de-activated it back then, took the control fuses out of the alarm control panel & dis-connected the back-up battery - it was always triggering a false alarm which was irritating.
2. I was with Telecom for my phoneline/broadband for the succeeding 4 years and never had an outgoing call to said number much less had our internet reset daily.
3. When I shifted to Slingshot Aug of last year that's when it started, the daily calls.
4. I had a couple of modem changes when I was still with Telecom. Had the same Linksys modem when I shifted to Slingshot until I changed to a Belkin October last year. The daily calls were going on with both Linksys and Belkin modems while on Slingshot.
5. As mentioned we were away for two weeks last July and I unplugged all our PC's and the modem/router - but not our phone.
Our slingshot phone record still showed the daily calls.

I'll re-check the house alarm connections - if it is the culprit I just find it weird that it decided to dial out when I shifted to Slingshot.

cheers!

Telecom don't itemise local calls on your bill so you would never never seen these calls listed.

Bypass the alarm on the phone wires, there should be a pair going in and a pair coming out so you just snip them and join the pairs together with a gel crimp. I could post you a couple if you like.

Time to find a new industry!

Problem solved - my internet no longer resets for the past 10 days.   No changes to the house internal wiring, did not touch anything about any alarm.  What changed?   I requested my connection to be rolled back to the Telecom wholesale equipment and when this was done the daily internet resets stopped.

Couldn't confirm though if the phone still calls out to the contact id server as local calls are no longer itemised on my Visibill.
But happy though with much improved sync speeds.  Hope it stays that way.
