Is it a standard Slingshot Dynalink?

poor/rubbish data rates can be a sign of a dying/dead modem?.

I'd try it with a different modem just to confirm that the fault is not at your end....

Sorry what? Basically dead? You're getting 0% packet loss... Speeds seem low for sure though, but you are on an AYCE plan.

Those stats are rigged, im sure of it.

Google loads once every 10 attempts.

Steam downloads at <2KB/s

1.6 servers in NZ have 70+ loss/choke.

I'm using my own linksys router/modem.

If the modem/router was dying surely i wouldnt be syncing at 20,000/1,000?

Have you tried using Slingshot's DNS?

What does a tracert to www.slingshot.co.nz look like at the moment, are you getting packet loss, high latency on some of the hops in the route?

I presume you've logged a ticket with their helpdesk?

Nope,
A common dynalink fault is for the Ethernet side of the device (inc any wireless) to pack up first, the sync stays strong, but the data rates collapse to almost nothing....

But as you say, your not using one...

Any way you can try a different modem/router (borrow a mates?) just to rule that out as the problem?

If it was a cabinet/exchange backhaul congestion you'd expect either more people from your area having the same problem across ISP's, if it was regional handover congestion for Slingshot you'd probably expect more slingshot customers from your area complaining.

Slingshot customer services will be able to look into that stuff once you get past the level 1 helpdesk.

Hi LiquidAce,

You were not yet on AYCE when you conducted the speed tests - it appears that you were on a limited plan and had hit your cap which resulted in throttling.

That won't be a problem any more on AYCE!

Cheers,

Adrian

Yes according to the staff we were apparently switched back to 40GB in march - It seems an old flatmate did it.

This was the first month we had gone over lol.

We are now switched to the 150GB plan for only $5 more than we were paying so _b

Maybe not so happy endings...

Does slingshot shape on non AYCE plans?

I'm getting MAX 200KB/s from filesonic on the 150GB plan.

Edit2:

Download Speed: 2959 kps (369.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 929 kps (116.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Packet Loss: 0 %
Test Server: us-la

Looks like its just international in general.

Hi,

Apologies if this response it overly technical... but you are on geekzone!

Looking at your connection, you are on BUBA connection.

Telecom enforce dimensioning at the handover point on BUBA, which degrades service during peak times.  This occurs before the traffic even reaches Slingshots network.

The dimension that Telecom allow via BUBA is a lowly 45-100kbps per subscriber depending on the commercial variant selected.  Slingshot are campaigning for this to be increased.   We don't dimension on our own LLU network, but as you have been cabinetised this is not an option.

In most regions where possible we have migrated customers to EUBA, which does not have any dimensioning applied by Telecom *at this stage*

The good news is that we are migrating Napier to EUBA in about a week, so once that happens you will find your speeds being a more consistent 13Mbps+ based on your line rate.

Cheers,

Adrian
