I live in Wattle Downs in Auckland near Manurewa. I currently connect to Slingshot phones and broadband through a UBA connection.
Yesterday I read this on Slingshots website press release area:
"Slingshot has New Zealand’s fastest growing unbundled Local Loop Network (LLU), aptly named the Better Network. Since 2010 we have unbundled over 100 exchanges from Whangarei to Invercargill making us the largest provider of LLU in the country. What does this mean? More Kiwis can enjoy Homeline for only $41 per month with faster broadband and free Voicemail, Call Waiting and Caller Display"
Well I was excited, I tried using the online tool to find out whether where I lived was able to get the service but IE wouldnt update pricing based on my address properly. I then rang Slingshot last night and spoke to a CSR who explained that yes, my address was in an area the this service is available in. I had a question about whether my contract needed to be renewed, which could not be answered until support was available the next day.
I just called them back to get things verified when I was told I was not able to move to the Better Network which really sucks. Their computer screen would tell them straight away whether I could be moved to the new network or not. Adn apparently I can't do because my area has be cabinetised, and unless they can get their equipment in there, I cant get the discounted price and added features.
I'm bitterley disappointed in Slingshot for raising my expectations and then being let down in one foul stroke. How could a CSR make such an assumption and mistake? I'd really like to know.
I'm also sure I should be on something more cost effective reading the website and these forums, I am currently paying $49.98 for my homeline, plus $2.05 for wiring and Maintenance and $50.00 for my Broadband 100 plan.
I look forward to hearing from someone at Slingshot in the know soon.
Cheers -- Bash
