Have had a horrendously slow connection for the last 5 days with Orcon here in CHCH.  Got onto it pretty quick, done all the usual things changing modems, line filters, checked the line stats, traceroute, speedtests, etc.  Speaking with the person on the phone 3 days ago they agree that it needs to be escalated to a technician and ask me to run a diag program and send them results, which I do the same day.  I ring them today and they only just attach the results when I call, even though I called after running the diag program and called yesterday as well.  Not happy about that delay on their part.

The person then says that it might be 10 days till we see a technician since we still have internet access (barely, I don't call this internet access, takes minutes for a webpage to load). This seems a bit extreme to wait so long to see someone, doesn't it?  Has anyone else had experience with Orcon technicians.  This could be the worse case scenario the person on the phone is telling me but still one would hope to see someone before mid-week, or am I expecting too much.

First post, welcome here... Could you please provide the modem stats you talk about, plus what plan you are in with Orcon and if your connection is to an exchange or a cabinet?

Also, read this

The technician will be Chorus, Transfield or whoever services Chch and unlikely to be affiliated with Orcon

Up to 10 working days is acceptable especially as you're only paying for a residential connection

Don't the small home business and residential connections cost the same, at least it was with telecom? If you are running a business from home, 10 days could be too long IMHO

Ten days does seem a bit excessive but could be due to workload. I recently had a fault that was causing my connection to run at ~5 Mb/s downstream and although it took me two weeks to convince my ISP that there was a problem, they finally booked a Chorus tech and he came the next day (and fixed it in five minutes).

Hey, thanks for the welcome.  This forum is where I check if I'm having trouble to see if anyone else is experiencing similar issues.

Here is the details from my modem:

The article was an interesting read, from the link to the Chorus website on that post we are connected to a cabinet.

And we are on the Silver plan 105 gigs/month.  What we have done so far is: tried another modem, replace the filters and phone cables to the modem, tried another socket, checked the modem settings.  Kinda ran out of things to try at that point.  Here is an output from a traceroute to www.google.co.nz:
1 192.168.1.254 (192.168.1.254) 6.882 ms 6.388 ms 5.883 ms
2 lo1.ras1.nct.orcon.net.nz (60.234.8.201) 428.408 ms 454.983 ms 457.494 ms
3 xe-1-0-0.cre1.nct.orcon.net.nz (121.98.9.13) 457.487 ms 458.197 ms 458.90

A little surprised that 10 days seems acceptable to a few people, first time I've actually had an issue I've personally had to ring up about. Just annoyed my ticket got delayed from getting to a tech to look at for a few days because the diag results didn't get attached.

Thanks for the reply's.
