Hello Guys and Gals.

Bit of a problem with my new box for Sat TV.
I have previously dumped Sky and invested in a sat box - Dish TV S7010 PVR.
The connection of the box to the TV seems good, I get all the menus etc. Dandy.
The channels seem to be pre-set i.e. TV1 TV2 etc.
But I am not receiving a sausage picture wise.
Now forgive my ignorance, but if I was receiving Sky I should be able to receive Freeview through the box?
Perhaps not, as the decoder frequently reminds me.
When flicking through the menus, SET UP INSTALLATION TRANSPONDER MANAGER, the frequencies all seem to be there and I seem to have a signal but on and off with the quality, more off than on I should say.
Have auto scanned and came up completely empty, other than the dish itself, which I know nothing about, apart from the fact that the signal bounces off the dish onto a gadget and gets sent into the TV.
Haven't got the Sky box anymore, so I cannot plug it back in and check, but I'm pretty sure the connection to the dish is OK. The sky box was just the basic, nothing fancy.
I'm not an Satellite wizard, but didn't think you had to be.
Apparently not.
There's me thinking it would be so easy.
One conciliation, the USB Media player works a treat. It's a good box if only I could get it to work.
I won't break the hammer out just yet.
Any help or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Sounds to me as though your LNB settings are wrong. LO should be either 10.75 or 11.3GHz, so try each of them in turn. You also need to be on H-Pol with 22kHz off. Post back any other LNB settings you are unsure about and somebody can advise you what they should be.

OK. Here's where I'm lost. Now don't get infuriated but LNB settings are adjustable in the SET UP I take it, and I should aim for those frequencies and try them individually, see what happens. I kinda get that, but I'm pretty new to this so bare with me. H-Pol 22kHz off, I take it I can adjust that too, somewhere, but it's kinda scary, not really knowing what I'm doing. I'll dig through it and have a play, I'm a virgin at this so it may take a while for the neurons to fire, but I'll get there, eventually, with some help. Which I must thank you for. Cheers Grant, I will have a dabble. There's me thinking it'll be something simple.
All those numbers are kinda frightening, all that data coming in too fast. Hope my synapses don't burn out just looking at the screen. Once again. Thanks for the info. The last time I looked at anything electrical it had valves on it. And it played Big Black CD's (as my children calls them).

My satellite receiver is a different brand than DishTV, so the exact menu wording will probably be a little different.

In my case, the LNB settings are under:

MENU | SETUP | Service Searching | Tuner Configuration.

In there I have set the following options:

- Configuration Mode: Advanced
- Satellite: 160.0E Optus D1
- LNB: LNB1
- Priority: Auto
- LOF: User Defined
- LOF/L: 11300
- LOF/H: 11300
- Threshold: 11300
- Voltage mode: Polarization
- Increased voltage: No
- Tone mode: Off
- DisEqC mode: None

As I say, each brand is a little different, but the basic options are all very similar as these parameters are what you need to successfully tune in Optus D1 in NZ. The same satellite carries FreeView and Sky, so once you have it set up correctly, you should be away.

As I mentioned earlier, also try 10750 instead of 11300 in those 3 places above. The three frequencies should all be changed together (as a set) not individually. So 11300x3 or 10750x3, NOT a mixture.

Post back how you got on. Someone else more familiar with DishTV equipment will probably be along in a while.

Well Grant.

That was absolutely fantastic, as you said the menus were slightly different but all kinda generic.
After digging deep into the gubbins of the machine (well actually not so deep, more superficially deep) it turned out to be the 10750 needed changing from it's original 11300 setting. There is only one to change, guess the others must be linked somehow. Got every channel on freeview, so at least I know it works and the dog ain't chewed the cable (Nah, I did check).
No SBS which I hoped to get and I've heard so much about around here, but maybe you cannot get those channels here in Auckland. In fact, there's quite a few channels with no signal, dunno, Russian TV. What would I do with that anyway? But it's certainly challenging and probably addictive once you get the gist of things. I'll scroll through these threads and read up about tuning in the other channels now the initial panic has faded (Dare say I'll be posting for help soon).
Just pleased to get it working.
Simple when you know how, saved the settings and Voila'.
And I have you to thank for helping me out of this particular pickle.
So a big thank you to you Grant.

the sbs channels are gone

Great to hear you got it working Grim.

As Gilco2 said, the SBS channels have now disappeared from Optus D1. This happened during early May and it was a great shame. Apparently they were a linking feed for the terrestrial repeaters in Tasmania. Now that has been replaced by a Fibre Optic cable so there is no need for the satellite feeds any more.

I have still been watching some SBS programmes though, by downloading from their website. There are a couple of tricks involved which I won't go into here. PM me if you want details.
